Looking for a fearless cat.......

To be fair I don't think she has been treated nicely - in fact quite to the contrary.
Sadly often the case with rescues. So you have to be Mr Nice and convince her you're trustworthy. You have the fond idea that the cat is a machine that can be set to 'kill' and off it will go. Nope; you have a pet that might hunt if it feels like it

It feels bad now to call her Death, or Mort, or any other clever name - so I'm using Puss. (I know I know)
Mine is informally known as 'Furbag'!bearman68 said:
OK, so THE CAT HAS ARRIVED.
Regretfully she's hardly the sabre toothed blood hunger monster I might have envisaged. Instead she's a small pathetic scrap of moggy that is currently scared of its own shadow, and is most definitely not currently a rat death bringer.
Ah yes, but many mass murderers looked quite innocuousRegretfully she's hardly the sabre toothed blood hunger monster I might have envisaged. Instead she's a small pathetic scrap of moggy that is currently scared of its own shadow, and is most definitely not currently a rat death bringer.
Give her time to settle down & see what happens.

Rat catchers don't turn up with cats...
They turn up with Terriers.

Nice to see the terriers doing the job that they were designed for. I love to see a working breed at work. They turn up with Terriers.

My grandfather kept a pair of manchester terriers for the same purpose, they were fast and efficient.
He used to get paid by the local council for each rats tail he brought in.
I can vouch for savage farm cats, I still remember my mate and me wetting ourselves laughing at the vet attempting to inoculate the cats, in the end he wimped out after a ginger tom did its best impression of a face hugger from alien ! A vet nurse arrived to complete the task, she was built like a prop forward and was from the no messing school of animal care and adopted the grab, jab and chuck method.

Hi all.
Puss is still really nervous - I was hoping by now she would have been gnawing at the cage bars trying to get out.
I actually texted the cat protection people yesterday to say they had sold me a cat with no legs, on the grounds that I had never seen her use them. (I'm not sure they were too pleased with that)
I stood quietly a few metres away this morning, after laying the food down. She crept out of the box, very nervously, and was very twitchy when eating, and then straight back into the sleeping box to (cower / recline / rest?) at the back
In short I think we still have a way to go. Cat lady is back on the weekend to offer a bit more advice, and possibly to bring a second.

OK,to update, the cat (Puss) has pretty much not moved from the previous photo, though I suppose it has only been 10 days. (Eaten a good 10 days worth of food mind)
I spoke to the cat lady this morning, and she reckoned I needed another cat.
So she's bringing one tomorrow morning.
Am I going to end up single and alone, and being eaten by cats - it could get to this I suppose.
Photo's of the new cat tomorrow. (Exciting times eh?)

Perhaps it is truly feral and would be happier outside. Can it get out if it wants?
Not at the mo. Cat protect woman is worried she will run off and not return for food. Going to give it the run of the shed at the weekend I think.Well, today the second cat arrived. Not mistreated this one, but an ex domestic cat that likes the outdoors (apparently). Owner had died, and the cat has been passed about a bit before arriving with me.
Straight away much more human orientated, and with a bit of stroking, managed a purr or two. Then it beat up the dog (twice), and exhausted by all this activity, went to sleep in the sun.
Cat lady thinks about 5 days or so to home this one (Chutney??) Who would call a cat chutney?? It's black and brown, very thin, but quite pretty.
The original one (Puss / Mort) has been released into the smallish shed, and straight away looked happier -left the cage, and bedded down under a glass window, where no-one could see her. (Not a bright cat this one)
Feeding time at the zoo tomorrow morning will be interesting. I'll get a photo of Chutney when I get 5.
Apparently there is another coming Monday - not sure where this is going. Clearly at the moment I am THE place of choice for a refugee cat. Allegedly this one is going to be a Ginger tom with half a tale. Has to be Greebo surely?
