Unfortunately vaccination does not offer 100% protection. Vaccinated cats can still get cat flu but the infection should be less severe.
Or they get it far worse.

Ho Hum. Do you think there is anything more I can do with Puss - would a bit of touchy feeling stuff help. Got the impression I was going to loose half my hand when I tried that last time
Ah. A solution. Disguise your hand as Rastamouse/Roland Rat. Cat will then get used to attacking things that look like said rodents & will savage any mice/rats that enter the shed.
The possible fly in the ointment is persuading said rodents to put a teacosy hat on & go into the shed in the first place...........

I'd say. Take a book. Take "treats". Sit in the shed with the cat reading the book. Don't approach the cat. Offer the treats gently from your position, and keep closing your eyes when looking at the cat.

Give it plenty of calm exposure to you, before trying a bit of cat wrangling.
Very much this. We adopted two cats from our local rescue centre many years ago. Mum was an ex stray/semi feral, daughter had never been socialised. It takes a lot of time and patience. Definitely go and spend some time in the same room as the cat, try to sit on the floor, don't block her exit and make sure she has somewhere she can hide from you if she wants. Find out what she's interested in, with one of ours it is food, the other one it was toys. She was still terrified of us but the desire to attack a toy overcame that.

An interesting cat day today.

Sam the cat woman texted when I was still in the land of nod to say that 'Seren' (Welsh for Star, and singularly inappropriate) was ready for delivery.
So, I made a special effort to clean the cats out, clean the bowls and tidy up. Chutney was fine, she has really homed, but Puss was a disaster.
With the door slightly ajar (bearing in mind I have not seen her legs yet), I dropped a container of food, where it burst on the floor. Without further ado,she was out of the door, and over the wall, and that was that.
I out food out, and that had gone this evening, and I am hoping she will survive. (Moral of this story is to be careful what you wish for)
Anyway Seren then turned up. Fully black (not Ginger), with no tale - now what could I possibly call her?

She is currently in a tense stand off with Chutney. (OK according to Sam).

Oh dear

It's getting a bit like Big Brother, only with cats.

I'm remain unconvinced that cramming numerous misfits together is good.

I'm amazed a cat charity is willing to just throw cats at him!

So far 1 is good, 1 is missing, and 1 is unknown. 33% chance is better than the alternative is it not?

Seem quite grateful to me. I'm not exactly mistreating them.

If they were still in a cat's home they'd be permanent residents, and acclimatised to their surroundings. As it is they're stressed, unhappy and in conflict. You're not actively mistreating them, but it seems they are not as well off now as they were. Well, one cat maybe, but leave it at that. It's an experiment, and it doesn't seem to be working - two cats that were being looked after safely in a home are now missing/wild in an alien neighbourhood.

I'm not sure the environment of a rehoming centre is really optimal?

A cat with no back story or history? I thought every cat had a tale to tell.

Waiting to be re-homed isn't a good environment for them to be in. It's not like they're in any sort of home. They're caged up waiting to be taken away.

Pretty much getting worst case cats from what I can tell too.

Yes, you said that of three cats, one was OK in your house, one 'missing' and one 'unknown'.

I agree a cat rescue centre is not the perfect place for unhomeable/unsocialised cats to live, but they ended up there precisely because they WERE. My local place has a big pen, about the size of a large shed, half covered, where all the 'permanent residents' live together. Not Utopia, but with shelter, food and water. The least worst option I think. But at least you have sorted out one, and well done for that smile

Yes, one has just arrived & therefore is unknown

Jeeze, get off his back - he's not ill treating these cats, quite the opposite!

Oh that kind of unknown, fair enough.

Yes I said that.

NB If I appear to be playing it a bit negative, perhaps I am, but that's because I'd rather be a bit pessmistic and have a nice surprise, than be all starry-eyed about it and then find out they've all been sent back or run over.
