OK,to update, the cat (Puss) has pretty much not moved from the previous photo, though I suppose it has only been 10 days. (Eaten a good 10 days worth of food mind)
I spoke to the cat lady this morning, and she reckoned I needed another cat.

So she's bringing one tomorrow morning.

Am I going to end up single and alone, and being eaten by cats - it could get to this I suppose.

Photo's of the new cat tomorrow. (Exciting times eh?)

Well, today the second cat arrived. Not mistreated this one, but an ex domestic cat that likes the outdoors (apparently). Owner had died, and the cat has been passed about a bit before arriving with me.
Straight away much more human orientated, and with a bit of stroking, managed a purr or two. Then it beat up the dog (twice), and exhausted by all this activity, went to sleep in the sun.
Cat lady thinks about 5 days or so to home this one (Chutney??) Who would call a cat chutney?? It's black and brown, very thin, but quite pretty.

The original one (Puss / Mort) has been released into the smallish shed, and straight away looked happier -left the cage, and bedded down under a glass window, where no-one could see her. (Not a bright cat this one) smile

Feeding time at the zoo tomorrow morning will be interesting. I'll get a photo of Chutney when I get 5.

Apparently there is another coming Monday - not sure where this is going. Clearly at the moment I am THE place of choice for a refugee cat. Allegedly this one is going to be a Ginger tom with half a tale. Has to be Greebo surely?

Well life with cats is turning into quite an interesting experiment. (I am actually worried that I am becoming quite fond of them, and haven't even thought about kicking one for ages now. Someone is going to find me dead in my old age, my body gently rotting, being eaten by the 120 stray cats I have)

Anyway, the black (and orange) one, Chutney has been in the garage workshop for a week or so,and has adapted really well. Misses people when they are not around etc. I have let her out of the cage and she has been wandering about the workshop. Today, I accidentally left the door open, and she was off around the farm. I was worried she would not come back, but lo and behold, the power of a rattling food can brought her running.
Confident that she would now respond, the roller shutter doors have been open and closed, with ample opportunity for Chut to run off,but she has stayed around the workshop.
I forgot about our golden lab, and came back to find the dog cornered by the cat, and in fear of her life. Dog is woss mind.
Later I lost the cat again - no response to the shaking food can etc,and I was genuinely worried she had run off - only to later turn up asleep in the old car we use as a test rig.
I somehow think she has homed fine.....

Meanwhile Puss has not changed too much. Seems depressed and afraid in the small shed. So I'm going to leave the door ajar tomorrow, with some smelly food near the doorway, hidden around a corner. It could be make or break time for Puss. (I am not so confident). We will see.

Puss and chutney are separated by distance of about 2 - 300 metres and they have not met, so the arrival of Chutney cannot have effected Puss, as far as I can see.
I left the garden shed door jammed ajar today, and the food by the door. The sun has been out here all day, and it's warm and pleasant, but Puss has stayed in one corner of the shed as far as I can see - eaten the food, but not done anything more.
Starting to loose patience a little with Puss - confidence breeds confidence and all that, so just get out there and do things.
Though I suspect that is my attitude being projected onto the cat.

Chutney meanwhile is a 'proper' cat.

Ho Hum. Do you think there is anything more I can do with Puss - would a bit of touchy feeling stuff help. Got the impression I was going to loose half my hand when I tried that last time). Would more contact with people help - she has been very isolated.

Ah. A solution. Disguise your hand as Rastamouse/Roland Rat. Cat will then get used to attacking things that look like said rodents & will savage any mice/rats that enter the shed.
The possible fly in the ointment is persuading said rodents to put a teacosy hat on & go into the shed in the first place...........
I somehow think you are not taking this at all seriously laugh
This is the mental well being of my cat you are talking about

An interesting cat day today.

Sam the cat woman texted when I was still in the land of nod to say that 'Seren' (Welsh for Star, and singularly inappropriate) was ready for delivery.
So, I made a special effort to clean the cats out, clean the bowls and tidy up. Chutney was fine, she has really homed, but Puss was a disaster.
With the door slightly ajar (bearing in mind I have not seen her legs yet), I dropped a container of food, where it burst on the floor. Without further ado,she was out of the door, and over the wall, and that was that.
I out food out, and that had gone this evening, and I am hoping she will survive. (Moral of this story is to be careful what you wish for)
Anyway Seren then turned up. Fully black (not Ginger), with no tale - now what could I possibly call her?

She is currently in a tense stand off with Chutney. (OK according to Sam).

Oh dear

I'm amazed a cat charity is willing to just throw cats at him!
So far 1 is good, 1 is missing, and 1 is unknown. 33% chance is better than the alternative is it not?

Seem quite grateful to me. I'm not exactly mistreating them.

Here's the 'settled' one Chutney.. You can see how stressed she is by the sounds of the snores coming from her.

And here's the one with no tail (sorry, got all confused earlier) - this is the unknown one. Black, no tail, it's Grebo.

Perhaps you are becoming a cat person after all?! And they will spend all day sleeping and not doing what you got them for, but by then you won't mind wink

PS You need a new car.
That's my P&J. (OK perhaps not - we repair electronic handbrakes from Renault, and this is our 'test' car. I described it the other day as a shed, and that's exactly what it is. A cheap storage space for huge amounts of rubbish, and a place to keep the cat.
Had a stroke (no titters at the back) from Grebo this pm, and a few purrs. Hope there yet.
I don't mind them sleeping in the day - no rats about then anyway.

Has Puss come back yet?
No obvious sign of her,and the food I've left out for her is still there, so I am not confident of a good outcome here. I wish that I had shut the door a bit better, though I was wondering how the cat was going to make the transition from a frightened wreck of a thing to something more positive, and that has certainly been resolved.I'll continue to put food out for the next few days, but if it's not eaten, I don't think it's worht continuing down that road. Ho Hum.
I moved Chutney slightly forcibly outside today. So she had an hour or 2 looking round before going back to the workshop for a nice long kip. Honestly !!
Gave chance for Grebo to have a good look around the workshop, and out of the cage. Worked OK. Grebo has now taken refuge in the Renault, and gone to sleep.
They don't DO a lot these cat things smile

OK,a bit of an update.

Sorry tale or not, Puss, the original cat has turned up this evening!! Appeared at the front door where the light spills out of the house.
So I immediately found some cat food, called her and put it out - a few minutes later she is busy eating, though you cannot approach her at all.
I suspect this is a major step forward, and she'll now be OK, just wild.
The other 2 cats are doing fine. Grebo has been out and about in the workshop, and is acclimatising fairly quickly it seems to me.
Chutney does not seem keen to leave the warm garage, but will be encouraged to do so over the next week.

Really pleased to see Puss - looks like all 3 cats will be OK.

Sorry to bring this bit of good news to all the naysayers. smile

Well it's been a busy cat time in the bearman household.

Fitted a cat flap on Sunday morning - as shown.

Then first thing Monday morning, I spotted this poor creature, clearly killed by cats.

And puss continues to improve. Her she is having breakfast. She has decided 2 meals a day are quite a nice idea with the weather turning colder and all that.
This is quite a long range photo - lot's of zoom, but to me she looks quite healthy.

And the cats are starting to become productive to - the last few days has seen a steady stream of dead stuff being dragged into the workshop. 2 or 3 rats in the last few days.

Sounds like a plan coming together.

Pahr, that's nothing, found 6 of those dead in the garage only yesterday.....

More seriously, yes, they all seem to have settled in well. All eating well, and have recently been de-fleaed and de-wormed. They are universally looking healthy with a good shine to their coats.

Not all is well with though. Had a problem with a customers clutch the other day - changed the clutch, and took it for a drive. Slight squeaking when pressing the clutch. Got out, had a listen, nothing obvious. Back in the drivers seat, looking for squeaks, and other bad things. Still couldn't find anything.
After repeating this for 10 mins or so, Grebo activates himself off the back seat, squeaking for tea. furious

Bit of a thread update for those interested (and in fact for those not interested either).

Grebo, the cat with no tail has alas expired - the tail job seemed to cause a problem with her waterworks and bowels. She became progressively more and more reluctant to eat, over a period of 2 weeks or so. She then started weeing everywhere, all over the floor in little puddles, and every time she went to sleep. After seeking advice, I changed the food, and even hand fed her roast chicken, but she did not want to eat. Was taken to the vets, where they found her to be seriously dehydrated, and even more seriously constipated. Reluctantly it was decided to put her to sleep. weeping

So the other day Grebo's replacement has come. Mid grey all over with white belly and white feet. No name yet - Grebo didn't seem such a good one in the end. thinking about Mouldy?
Has been homing in the workshop for a few days, but has been very vocal about being in the cage. Since I'm not working in there over the weekend,I thought I'd let her out. (Not sure this is a good idea). I'll prob put her back on Monday, as I suspect she does not like the noise much.

Any other name ideas?
