After much debating and quandary we have decided on a cockerdor as our new dog. Having previously owned Jack russels, springers, collies and labs we like the sound of this mix.

The problem is finding a breeder, There seems to be the odd "ready now' tyre ad online but I will be looking to take one on 1st week of october ish.

So i am appealing to the piston head masses to point me in the right direction as i would like to pick a pup before taking it home if that makes sense.

based in the northwest but willing to travel.

What the heck is a cockerdor?!!

If it is a mix of cocker and lab then this is irresponsible breeding (significant size difference in the breeds for a start (it'd better be a Lab Mum!)

As it is not a Kennel Club registered dog you will risk backyard breeders using the demand for fashionable mixes to make money. Are you looking for 1st/2nd or poss 3rd generation mix of the breed.

Make sure the breeds have had relevant breed related health checks esp for 1st generation.

Have you considered a crossbreed from a rescue instead as these 'breeders' are charging astronomical amounts for their crossbreed pups (only justifiable if they have indeed forked out for hip/elbow/eye tests and used a quality stud dog and bh)

Sorry to sound a negative on your breed choice, getting a dog is exciting but I do get very frustrated at people being charged a lot of money for breed mixes especially those breeders that have very little planning or any protection for the health of the pups long term. Especially when the individual breeds have several medical conditions already.

Good luck with finding a four legged friend, hopefully by thinking about what I have mentioned and seeing if anyone here has good links to someone you will have a healthy, strong pup soon.

Also good breeders have waiting lists so don't expect to find a pup to meet your specific thoughts in 4 weeks. Some people wait months for a pup from the right breeder.

Do the KC record litters of dogs which are not KC Registered?

I wouldnt have a clue if I'm honest. I think they list registered breeders and then if those breeders have puppies they list how many. Aside from Pets4homes I dont know where else I'd look.
