They weren't playing you re: the appt, if they were selling a POM-VPS product ie Advocate. To cover the legal stuff, we have to have seen the pet within the last year to prescribe it.

Usually this is covered with the annual vaccines appt. If animals aren't vaccinated we offer a free 'flea' check to cover the legal stuff!

Their reasoning is more misworded than wrong. We have to have seen that the pet we are selling to is in good bodily condition etc

Understood entirely. The way it was put to me though, I'm not convinced. Fingers crossed this stuff will nip it in the bud though.

I can understand the desire for the vet surgery to have seen the cat, in order to cover themselves against any potential legal action should the cat be in a poor condition and then die as a result of the side effects of the prescribed meds.

it does sound like they weren't going to prescribe what the op had asked for (possibly because they can make more money from Stronghold than they can from Advantage/Advocate?)

Probably more likely that they stock one product over the other. But OP can request a written px for 12 months of what he wants. Or 6 months depending on how often they would want to ck the pet if O' was buying actual product from them. (most vets will do a year for flea tx)

Update. Not great. The cats have been done with advantage stuff. Still seem to be scratching. Our little in was taken ill on weekend. Long story short but poor thing had appendicitis. Very bad case apparently and we are still in hospital working on not much sleep as you can imagine and occasionally popping home to shower etc. Every time I go back I find more fleas on me. The spray I got obviously no good. So suggestions for a decent flea bomb or something for some one with 0 time to mess about. All the reviews of the ones on Pets at home etc are rubbish.

I need something I can sling in house and leave for a bit. Then hopefully I can return a bit later and Hoover around.

Sorry to hear about your little one hope they are home soon, so worrying when they are ill (my 10 month old is struggling with bronchiolitis at the mo)

Re house spray usually any vet one.

I always use and recommend Vet Kem Acclaim (can get it online for a lot less than in the vets!)

When I have more time I will go through how to get the best result from your spray.

Cheers for that. I'm wondering if it's worth getting someone in to flea bomb the place while we aren't there anyway. It's a nightmare cos currently in the middle of kitchen floor being replaced due to a leak so all pots pans plates microwave etc in lounge. Good etc in spare rooms and all over house. We stuck here, fleas stuck there. It never rains it pours!

General guide to get best out of spray.

Heat the house.

Vacuum top to bottom as thoroughly as poss. Empty vacuum and spray contents in bin

Start spraying remember room edges, under rugs, curtains, furniture, fleas like dark warm areas.

Spray thoroughly but not heavy handedly. Cover carpet in fine mist spray. Leave room. Half hr later open window.

60 degree wash any pet bedding and eg duvet covers. I have sprayed my mattress though you.aren't meant to!!

Do ALL rooms even those the cats don't use though be cautious in food prep area
Cover fish tanks, remove pet birds.

Leave one day then vacuum daily, keep heating up. (heat stimulates eggs to hatch speeding up sprays effect, sprays can't kill eggs which can lay dormant for upto 6months.)

Not sure which spray you will end up with. Acclaim not as smelly, Indorex spray stinks!! (well imo does!!) still good spray though.

Hope that gives you a good starting point. May still see fleas upto 3 weeks post spray as flea cycle still occurring but should see drastic reduction in numbers by then! Good luck.

Good news about your little one smile

Great. Many thanks for that! Hopefully we can knock this on the head for good. Horrible things. Re little un, yep it's great news such a relief. Long way to go still but it will be so nice to get out of hospital.
