So our Cockapoo bh is now 2 years old and we are thinking of getting a companion for her. Contacted a breeder with a litter of Cockapoos and she seems to be unwilling to sell us another bh. Seems to think that generally 2 bhes don't get on and that we could have problems further down the line.

What are your experiences of this. Our existing bh has been spayed and we would also have the new one spayed when she gets old enough. Are we heading for a world of pain and should we go for a boy this time?

Both of our families have only ever had bhes, so I guess that is what we are used to.

Edit: interesting how PH censors out the b***h word.

I have two girls and two boys. Mixing them is subject to you and their personalities IMHO. For many the belief is that "both spayed" = no problems. That is not the case. It is in the main however.

Your breeder is being sensible. There are of course bhes that get along fine but they can definitely be troublesome with each other. It would be very character dependant.

I agree with Bex.

My experience? I've had 7 males and 5 females, and the only problem I have ever had was between two females. It was so severe that one had to be returned to rescue. Both were spayed.

I'd had two females together (with one male) before that, without issues. But I would have to think long and hard before having more than one female again (and probably wouldn't). I'm perfectly happy to have more than one male - I currently have 3 males and 1 female.

So my advice would be to go for a male.

We've often had two bhes together when I was growing up, never had an issue. But then they were different cross breeds to yours.

We always had bhes growing up (GSD's) and never an issue, (however they were always Adult and puppy), so seniority was never an issue. We have two boston terriers and one was an older rescue and they both get on fine.
We also regularly dog sit with another female puppy boston and all three get on fine the grumpy old rescue barked at the puppy when it got too boisterous on the very first meeting, but now the pup is inseperable from the rescue whenever it comes to stay.
Maybe we've been lucky?
