As a final note of farewell to my furry fiend.... friend I would like to add this.
THIS is how I will always remember him so no more sadness.
Lovely image. As you say, he would have just slipped away. No pain, no worry, just a final sleepTHIS is how I will always remember him so no more sadness.
As for his sister, cats are tremendously resilient. It's a good thing that she knew he had passed on (which she will, cats understand these things) and she will be fine. As long as they can say 'goodbye' to a loved one, they are OK.
My OH works at a garage. There are a couple of yard cats there, one of which keeps getting pregnant.
The owner wanted the kittens to be homed as they were falling asleep under the tyres of various cars.
OH was making noises about the one kitten that was left over. Needless to say I fell in love with him...
He came home with us there and then, via Pets at Home. OH took him to the vet tje next day, who said he was very playful, but a little underweight.
He has a nice little belly on him now and seems to be growing by the hour!
The first introduction to Poppy didn't go well. Smudge (name had nothing to do with me!) became possesed by the devil himself upon sight of her! Perseverance has paid off and they seem to be best friends...

He looks lovely! Feral cats can be hard to home I was told when we found about a dozen hanging around some gravel workings some years ago. Otherwise we might have had a houseful!
He is doing very well. Very affectionate, only one accident and has used the litter tray ever since.Although, since playing with Poppy, he has become a little more bitey. He keeps stealth attacking my feet!
He is my first ever cat, so it's been a great experience so far!
One of my Mums new (to her) cats
