Collars - I tried to get Rosie used to wearing one when she was a kitten, trouble was she soon learnt that she could remove it by pushing with her hind leg till the safety catch parted, not bothered since.

She's fully microcipped - and the catflap reads her chip so no need for a magnet, and she doesn't normally go near the road.

Our boy cat has done himself a mischief. Probably pulled a muscle or sprained something. Walking like an old man, but he was still happy to scale and jump off the 7 foot fence in the garden yesterday so I'm not too concerned.

He's done this a few times, and it's always been before we've gone away somewhere so he gets lots of rest and he's fine by the time we get back.

We're off skiing tonight for a week so he should be fine once we're back. Family checking and feeding a few times while we're away.

Any of yours pick up 'sporting injuries'?

Mine cut a couple of his pads a few months ago - he was limping quite badly, but still jumped up and down. Vet was in two minds as to whether it needed stitches or not, but in the end decided against it. It took him a few weeks to recover, but he's fine now.

One of our old ladies came home a couple of weeks ago with a limp.

We gave her a couple of days to see if it got any better - but ended up going to the vet. Diagnosed as a strained muscle and a touch of arthritis. She's been back for 'senior cat clinic' since, but put up such a fight when they tried to take bloods and urine, we're going to have to take her back again.

(She's lost 200g since the summer, so the vet advised us to get her checked out)

She didn't lose too much mobility - still jumped onto the back of the sofa in the evening etc., but needed some help grooming.

I'm amazed by the resilience of this pair - the long hair is now 16 and the short hair 15. They behave like cats much younger.

My 2 herbert's have the reflective collars but instead of a snap off bit they have an elasticated section so they can slip out of it if they get caught. Noblet often pulls his off when he is having a ruck with Millie. Never lost a collar yet but it could get expensive having to replace the tags & the GPS transponder

These cats will kill you with their death-ray eyes. Beware!

Today is a year since I had my old cat put down and I still find myself missing him. I know I did the right thing, but even though it's pointless I still find myself wishing my new cat had more of his traits

You never forget old friends and I found myself doing this too. However as time passes, you remember fondly and notice your new friend's personality more. Give it a bit more time (was a couple of years for me - she was with us 23 years so a hard habit to lose smile)

18 months for me, but I have not taken a replacement cat. He was my first cat and my only one, as I am unable to 'replace' him.

I thought that feeling would pass, but now I know it never will.

I think when he was still alive I always did feel that when his 'time came', that that would be it for me. Sometimes, you just know.

These days I content myself by playing with friends' cats.

I wasn't going to have another after our last one died, but someone on here back in 2009 asked for a good home for his cat as he could no longer keep him. I was lucky enough to be the one to be his servant! Boris is still with us and loves having open fields and a quiet location to live out his latter years. He's twelve this year and still very active.

I know everyone is different but we got another kitten as soon as possible after Jasper passed away.
The house just felt empty.
Our boisterous Bengal is now 18months old, very very different, a lot more demanding, hardly any of the same traits.
Took a long time to get use to that but wouldn't change him for the world.

Recently (3 weeks ago today) we had our first daughter, we were more that a bit concerned about what effect this would have on Indy as he is prone to the odd flying attack.
So we packed him off to my parents for a week while we got to grips with the baby.
When introducing him to her, he took one look, a quick sniff and promptly turned on his heels, went to his bowl and cried for biscuits.
He couldn't give a toss about her, not when she cries, not when in her cot, not when having cuddles with us.
He just has no interest.
Will keep a close eye and won't leave them alone together but what a worry over nothing.
So far anyway!

Exactly the reason Boris's previous slave couldn't keep him. He and his wife had a baby and they were worried that as an indoor cat (as he was then) he might be a liability with the new baby. Boris is a gentle cat but when he gets a bit excited he can bite, albeit gently. A wise move by them and I know they were very sad to see him go. Boris is very happy here and brings in all sorts of little 'presents' to show his gratitude!

Tonight, for the first time in a year since his rescue, and of his own choosing, Lebowski has come to sit on my lap. This has made me so very happy. And since I haven't dare move for a few hours, probably piss myself.

He's just turned around. My fire is going out and I can't reach my wine!

I've not idea why. She's not a lap cat. She'll sleep on my pillow above my head but that's about it.

Because Lebowski's getting special treatment?

Well on the upside I have spent an entire year without having my face batted at 3am because someone wants attention, and no longer have to stand up when drinking milk or eating spread cheese to prevent it being pulled from my hand! But he was the most affectionate cat I've ever met, so the chances of finding another one like him are pretty much zero, and it is daft to expect an animal to fit my expectations. I have had a bit of training in bereavement counselling, so can readily see that it affected me more than losing family members. But I think the best way of looking back at it was he brought me a lot of happiness whilst I was able to give him somewhere to enjoy his retirement

None of them get any more special treatment than the others.
She was taken in at what was probably around three weeks old. She has little social skills, especially over food, she can be a proper little growler sometimes. Doesn't like to be held for long, won't sit on a lap and rarely likes to be stroked. She still likes being in the car however and will curl up with Walter and let him groom her. I want to let her have a litter of kittens at some point then will have her spayed. Hopefully she might learn to chill a bit.

Gretchen, I'm sure you treat all your cats with equal love and attention! It was just that the look on Frida's face was one of a mixture of puzzlement and envy. She is a beautiful moggie and I've been reading your posts about her and the others with fascination. Keep up the good work! smile
