Thanks for the replies. I know I did the right thing but probably should have taken him up a few days earlier. At least the vet was able to tell straight away, and I didn't have to go home and wait for the results. 16 is a good age and considering how affectionate he was I'm sure he had a good life before I got him.

That said, I still feel terrible and the bed feels awfully lonely without him on the other pillow. Part of me is still expecting him to be curled up on the bed or walk into the room meowing for no apparent reason. Went into work this morning but had to go home after a few hours because it was just too much. Would like to get another but can't help feel I lucked out before and will never find another one so friendly and low maintenance. Thanks for everything Chairman Meow

Dora is back from the vets after spending a few days on a drip. Was immediately bossing me around again once she got to the house. You could tell she was mega-pleased to be back home among friends.

Problem is though, we still don't know what was wrong with her. All we know is that she's better than she was. And we still have the problem that we've been given liquid and tablet antibiotics to administer but it's virtually impossible to do so. If you try to get it down her throat with a syringe it's a) guaranteed to elicit the same sort of blood-curdling reaction as flicking a lion's love-spuds with a wet towel, b) it stresses her out massively and c) she just throws it back up again, out of pure spite mainly. But if I try and hide it in her food she just refuses to eat. I can't keep going back to the vet to get each bloody tablet down her. I've enlisted the help of the neighbours (she often nips in for breakfast and they feed all the local cats) so here's hoping they can help.

Fingers crossed.

Condolences Negative Creep.. And the same to everyone else who has suffered a loss frown

I'm not ashamed to admit that I'll be giving my little Sophie extra cuddles when I get home after reading that. I might have only had her 6 months or so but I know I'd be devastated if anything happened to her frown

Lots of sad kitty stories on here recently chaps. Went through it all a few ago and it's awful so good luck to all the poorly cats.

Thought I'd try and brighten the mood though with our new arrival today. She's been here about an hour or two and I swear it's like she's been here 10 years. So chilled out I've never seen anything like it.

Need a few name ideas though!

O/T but did you think that Forza 6 version was grey? I was a bit disappointed when I took it out the box to find it wasn't the shade it appeared to be in the photos

From the photos I'd seen it was about what I expected.. Liked the fact that it was a bit different but the Forza branding wasn't too "in your face" as it were. Appreciate its not to everyone 's taste though. And the childish side of me rather likes the cheesy car noises it makes as well paperbag

She's a beauty. Look at the size of those paws!! What's her story??

And to me she looks like a Boudica.

RSCPA rescue, found wandering with vomitting and the squirts. Probably crappy diet.

Settling in very well although she's been sneezing a bit (new house?) and is insisting on only eating the jelly in food. Very odd.

Going with Lyla at the moment.

Teeth? Does she chew anything solid?

Thanks all for the support - I've found reading about the experiences of others very helpful too.

I'll be back, but probably not for a few months.

She ate all the jelly tonight and then came back an hour later to finish off the meat. Very odd.

The funny thing is that the RSPCA centre reckoned she wasn't a big eater! She's bloody scoffing it down!
