We lost our gorgeous little Kirra last night. I came home and found her on one of the dining room chairs under the table expired.
Such a shock and fair to say I am utterly devastated, she was 15 years old and I only had her checked out 2 months ago and the vet said she was amazing for her age.
Such a sweet little thing she used to do this silent mew when she wanted a fuss and then hop from one front paw to the other when being fussed and had the loudest purr.
RIP my little one.
Millie is 13 this year and looks exactly like Kirra, Millie too is as sweet and gentle as any animal I have ever met.Such a shock and fair to say I am utterly devastated, she was 15 years old and I only had her checked out 2 months ago and the vet said she was amazing for her age.

I am so sorry for the loss of your family member.
I genuinely believe that cats are quite stoical when it comes to the end. They often know it's on the cards and in many cases they often take themselves away to prepare for it.It seems like your little cat passed in her sleep. No better way, really.
One other thing. My neighbour believes that you should always show the other cats in the house the body of the one that has passed on. It gives them a chance to rationalise it in their own way, rather than wondering where their mate has gone.

More sad times... we had our Rab put down today. Only fifteen years old, but he'd just lost it. Kept soiling in the house, and he was beginning to struggle getting about at the best of times. Vet said it wasn't anything exactly wrong with him, he was just plain worn out
Two very upset kiddies now, he's been there all their lives and they don't really know how to rationalise it all. My five-year old daughter isn't that bothered but my eight-year old boy is inconsolable. Rab used to sleep on the end of his bed every night and you just can't adequately explain it away to a child when you kill their best friend
RIP Rab

RIP Rab.
My Pogull died at 14, I used to think he was indestructible. He did everything at full speed even when it got him in trouble. I had to reconcile his death with the fact he had an awesome 14 years with me and he could not have wanted for more and lived his moggy life to the max. I could see in his eyes he was in trouble and did the decent thing for him, which was the opposite of what Wanted. There in lies the problem that you can't easily explain that to a child. You never forget them but you do move on. Sadly, hopefully many years from now I could end up facing the same dilemma but if you only look at the negative then you would never enjoy the many years cats & other animals bring to your life.

14/15 seems like quite a common age
I always expected jasper to live into his 20s like my parents cats all have.
He also joined the 14/15 club last summer.
Thankfully no kids to have to explain it to but he was the only other member of our family which is difficult in a different way.
We got Indy very soon afterwards and it was the best thing for us to do, happy purry house again.
Really sorry for those that have lost recently.

As above, my condolences on Kirra and Rab.
Here's our 15 year-old cat, Mercury.
He was part of a large litter and all were named after a planet. We decided to keep his name and that made much sense as the other cat we had at the time was called Freddie... Poor Freddie passed away 3 years ago and is still much missed.
We recently had a scare with him over an infection, but he appears to have regained his old self and occasionally shows his inner-kitten. He loves heat and is obsessed with sleeping on anyone's lap. I think it's a heat thing, again, but he does enjoy the cuddles and is genuinely affectionate. I can't sit down for longer than 30 seconds before he jumps up. Much as it can be an inconvenience, it's really nice and he's never refused space.
Predictably, he's bunched up on my lap 'twixt laptop and me as I write this. He's purring happily.
And he seems to have mastered the art of photo-bombing, as this recent shot attests...
