It's Caturday- Post some cats (vol 3)
Discussion
This is always a lovely thread but the reports of beloved cats being put to sleep can be quite distressing to read. I lost my cat more than a year ago and there will be no 'replacement', he's gone. I could no more replace him than people could replace a child.
I feel for everyone going through the pain of losing their pussies. I'd love to be able to say the pain goes over time, but it doesn't, though it can be supressed. For some, getting another cat at some point is the answer, but for others that can never be. I understand both points of that argument and neither is right or wrong.
All I can say for those going through that awful moment is, you must understand you did the right thing at the right time and it is the final act of kindness that we always promise our animals when we take them on. I did not shy from it when it was needed, and whenever my thoughts turn to 'did I do it too soon?', I have to reassure myself that I absolutely did not. Doesn't stop it being utterly heartbreaking, but all cat owners are with you as you go through it.

Sadly Timmy will be put to sleep this afternoon. Kidneys not responding to treatment, blindness irreversible and an infected foot has developed gangrene and will need to be amputated.
Discussed with the vet. His recommendation is that life for Timmy will be full of pain and discomfort.
I am upset that I can't be there. He is such a sweet friendly cat.

That is definitely two cats stuck together. He should be called cut-n-shut.
Here's one of ours plotting to kill us after 4 days at the vets. Poor sod had a hematoma at the base of her tail which promptly ruptured. One side's been stitched up but the other left open to help prevent pressure build up. It's really odd we could basically see through the cat!
Just looking into vets in our area and the one closest to us offers a 'fixed payment' scheme for vaccinations, flea and worm treatments etc. The cost is £160 per year split into 12 payments and covers:
- annual boosters
- two consultations per year
- flea treatments
- worm treatments
Plus some other fringe benefits.
Does that sound about normal, price wise? I'm happy to pay a little bit of a premium for the convenience as they're literally round the corner which would be reassuring in case of any emergencies.
