Here's a weird one.

One of our two likes to bite off the whiskers of the other one when they're grooming - he now has zero whiskers on one side, a bit on the other and no eyebrow sticky uppies (you know what I mean).

They're going to be let out soon and I'm worried he's going to get himself stuck in places because he'll think he'll fit as he hasn't any whiskers telling him otherwise.

Does any of the above make any sense? hehe

If so, how to stop it happening?

cats use their whiskers to navigate and sense things. I would not let this chap out before they have grown back out. The pulling on whiskers can be a sign of stress and a sign of dominans.

Agreed, we've got to work out how to stop her biting his whiskers first.

Lovely. Reminds me of our relatively recently departed Nimbus.

All you need is a dormant volcano and an army of hench men/women and a plan to steal the world supply of jam.

So we finally have Vonderhaar (now Dexter) home after what seemed like an eternity!

Here he is, less than an hour after rehoming. I think it's fair to say he's settled in quite well biggrin

He is a 13 week old Blue Tabby point Birman called Mycroft smile He's already pretty settled, he's been bossing my 1 yr old Bengal cross around already and is now stretched out asleep on my lap. He's might be tiny but he's got a big voice on him!

Hey guys

Since we got Dexter home yesterday, literally all he's wanted to do is eat! We feed him, he eats his entire portion of food without coming up for air and then he's very vocal about the fact that he wants more food. Stood/led by his food bowl making pained 'crys' as if he's wasting away! Is this normal in the early days of rehoming? I was wondering if it could be an anxiety thing - a bit of uncertainty about where the next meal is coming from?

He's been having 40g of dry food in the morning, with a pouch of wet in the afternoon/early evening at the shelter, and they advised us to carry that on. We have, but have had to give him more dry food in between because he was (seemingly) very hungry, even going back to his wet food bowl and licking it even though it was gone!

I had planned on giving him wet food morning and night, with a constantly 'topped up' bowl of dry to graze on throughout the day, but I think I could put a kilo of dry food down and he'd sit and eat it until it was gone!!

I think it is fairly normal for an ex-stray to be like that

One of mine is a rescue shelter cat. His family abandoned him. They sold the home and left him outside to care of himself accordibg to neighbors.

Having to catch his food and not ve sure when there would be food for him and having to obviously steal food sometimes , resulted in what you are experiencing right now.

He swallowed everything that was given to him (which was A LOT of food) and continued to do so until he realized that there would allways be food out for him.

Thanks for that, unbelievable that people can do that. It's absolutely heartbreaking to see him licking his EMPTY food bowl and then sadly miaowing (sorry shouting!)

However on the other hand I don't want to be pandering to his every whim and he associate making a lot of noise with getting fed, as hard as it is to sit and ignore.

He seems a healthy weight and size, so I'd say he was doing ok food wise as a stray as he was only at the shelter for c. 3 weeks.
