Hi think I can smell that puppy fur from here what a lovely boy.
I can recommend a good harness when the need comes http://www.ruffwear.co.uk/dog-gear/webmaster-harne... bought one for our whippet Ruby and she's very comfortable with it.
They can always back out of a collar if spooked.
Enjoy your boy.

Seconded. Our two Houdini whippets have those Ruffwear harnesses and have not managed to escape yet (they did escape from another type of harness). They are expensive, but well made and good quality.I can recommend a good harness when the need comes http://www.ruffwear.co.uk/dog-gear/webmaster-harne... bought one for our whippet Ruby and she's very comfortable with it.

If you do carry on using a collar only, it would be a good idea to get a sighthound (fishtail) collar as it is more suited to their delicate necks.

I tried to get one, but couldn't find a small enough one.I may try a harness now though.
That's one of the reasons we started using harnesses. Now ours just have house collars (which we don't connect leads to) and harnesses for walks.

What a lovely little chap you've got there OP. We just love sighthounds. Although we've had various breeds over the years sighthounds are our favourites. We've had greyhounds, lurchers, an Irish wolfhound and now have a whippet - fantastic little chap. They're an easy breed to keep, especially if got as a puppy. But just be aware that they will instinctively chase moving things so make sure and exercise him well away from roads, cliff tops etc
Little update.
The toilet training is going very well.
He is getting better at walking on the lead, but dislikes people walking behind him, he will sit, and wait until the go past him, or are far enough away in the opposite direction.
He's getting on with Wicket far better, and ignoring the cats.
Lets hope he keeps it up.
P.S. he is growing very quickly.
