As coincidence would have it my neighbours have gone away for the weekend and left a German shepherd in the garden, it's 6 months old and the moment I learnt it will be left alone for the weekend (5pm yesterday)I filed a report with the RSPCA.

It's probably because I unticked the box "would you like to make a regular donation" on the report or they are not in my will but diddly squat so far.

Maybe try calling? Got to be better speaking with someone than just another email enquiry I'd guess.

I've got the same problem with my next door neighbour. He got a dog about a month ago from The Blue cross rehoming centre.

How the hell he passed a homing test I don't know as he leaves the house at 7.30 - 8am and doesn't come back till very late in the evening. The dog is shut in a crate and it howls, barks and cries ALL DAY. It gets a short walk in the morning and another in the evening when he gets in (providing it isn't raining).
And of course there is the problem when he goes out in the evening as he obviously cant leave the dog alone. So he has to take it with him and leave it in the car.

I've spoken to him as I'm sick of hearing it when I am at home, and I also have a child that needs to be in bed early. Other neighbours have complained and reported him to the Blue cross but nothing has been done.

I really feel sorry for the dog, it's cruel and I really don't see why he wanted a dog when he is never in.
Bit like people with birds. Lets get a creature that belongs in the skies and in trees, and stuff it in a cage for its life until it dies.

Weird.

Just arrived home at same time as next door neighbour. Said hello and asked what is happening with the dog situation. Got:

"You don't need to know"

And she walked off.

Home tomorrow so if it's still happening it will be RSPCA and council noise nuisance.

Put repeated barking on a hifi at volume 11 and leave the house at weekends.

I looked at this thread when the OP first posted as our next door dog does a similar thing but it's an older small dog.

But just reading that it's a Husky I'm not happy at all.

Few years ago we looked after a pair of Huskies for a friend, the dogs were fantastic, so obedient and friendly.

Tell them not to pull and they just walked alongside us.

My local police have been tweeting about leaving dogs in car in hot weather, I'd class this as the same thing.

The dog is in distress.

OP call the police on the non emergency number and tell them the whole story and say that your are going to confront the the neighbours and fear for a 'breach of the peace'.

Yes, you might need to push the issue a bit but how much do you care about this poor animal?

Well I heard it barking briefly at 7am (indeed I was woken up by it - ho hum).

Since then, total and utter blissful silence. So I'm guessing they've made other arrangements for it - or muzzled it...

Can dogs whine through a muzzle? (I hope so, it would be incredibly cruel to leave it muzzled all day - hoping the fact I can't hear it means they've actually done something humane with it).

A muzzle wouldn't stop a dog whining/barking (IMO).

Please do not do this, it will only make the poor pup worse frown

Happened to see neighbour leave this morning. He rides a moped so he isn't taking the dog, but I was curious to see that she didn't have it either when she left.

I'm very curious to know quite what they've done to make a distraught howling crying whimpering puppy with clear separation issues totally silent...

Guess I'm never going to know now - nothing to complain about, which is great, but I am still a bit worried about it...

So would I especially if they have muzzled is definitely not the answer, (dogs should never wear muzzles (the sort that will muffle a bark) unattended dangerous and cruel.

I know the muzzle is speculation. I hope they just don't have pup anymore.

They absolutely definitely still have the pup, I've heard it bark whilst they've been there (at 5:45 this morning - ho hum).

But when they leave - utter silence. In fact, I was just downstairs having some lunch (I'm normally upstairs in my study working during the day) and I heard a delivery driver park outside, walk across their drive and knock on the door. It's got to react to that I thought. Nothing!

It's really weird...

Possibly - surprised if it could restrain itself when someone actually knocked on the door though.

bds, wish I knew in case they have done something nasty like that.

It's probably realised it's pointless and just goes about it's day now.

From howling constantly all day for literally weeks to not even bothered when someone walks up and knocks on the door? Can't see it.

Anyway, nothing I can do now - they won't speak to me and I've got nothing I can complain about.

It's a bad job.

Ari,

Please call the police non emergency number and tell them all about this.

I don't know about your force but ours are very good with animal cruelty.

Yes, they might just say they can't do anything but at least they will know about your concerns.

Some might say that it's not a police matter, but it could be.

Please call them.

He must have lied to them. Personally I would bombard the Blue cross. They have a duty of care as animals are only ever adopted out by them meaning they should be able to demand an animal back if it is not being given proper care. The dog is better off shut in a kennel all day than a crate.

What a st existence for it. Moved from kennels to crate frown. The least he should do is get the dog into a daycare facility if it is Good with other dogs.
I've contacted the Blue Cross and explained what has been going on. Evidently they have received 'very positive' feed back from the owners of the dog concerned and have had an 'informal' chat with him on the phone. Evidently he denies leaving the dog for long periods!!! I've said it is not good enough and the noise from the property last week was awful, every day, all day. Blue Cross have responded that they will monitor and investigate my concerns and welfare of the dog.

So basically, nothing is being done about it.
