Walking through London yesterday I took a pic of a fellow strolling along with a pair of solid blue Macaws on his shoulders. I am aware of a very rare Macaw called a Hyacinth Amazon, which are heavily protected and cost tens of thousands. Never came across any other solid blue Macaws though.....had an Amazon for many years so familiar with most of them

Are there any parrot fanciers out there?..(cue Monty Python jokes of course)....

Looks like they're riding along atop a more commonly spotted creature in our towns and cities these days known as the Attention Seeker.

Personally at that size and colour, and the fact that I think you can just see the yellow round the eyes I would say they are indeed hyacinthe macaws. Note sure what else they could be.

I'd say Hyacinth macaws.
There's a tropical bird land just down the road from us and they've got a couple.
Probably my favourites smile

Very similar to a Hyacinth Macaw--all very rare , expensive and beautiful birds though.

Hard to say with just a rear shot but looks like Hyacinths to me. I don't think they're quite as rare/expensive aa you might think, they seem to be more and more "common" in the UK these days.

Surely they are tethered somehow?

Why ?

I could walk around outside with my parrot on my shoulder with no problem, in fact they don't want to come off you once they have bonded.

Do you think the same of dog walkers? Why can't someone do that if they so wish and be free from sneering arses making cheap shot comments. Maybe they are his best friends?

Fair play to him, would make me smile if I saw that.

How come he hasn't got the familiar green and white striped patterns I always used to get on my clothes when I had my grey sitting on me?

Beautiful birds Hyacinths.

My experience also..had a yellow-naped Amazon that was very happy to be on my shoulder. Never tethered.

I'm guessing for their protection in case some little oik scares them deliberately somehow, or something else happens to startle then into flying off
