Breaking a stranger's car window if there's a dog inside

You have no right to criminally damage someone else's car no matter what.
Car crashes, is on fire, and the occupant is unconcious. The doors are locked and the only entry is to break a window. The fire brigade is 10 minutes away. Do you stand and watch, hoping the fire brigade get there on time?shakotan said:

Wow! Is the OP serious?
I doubt it, there have been a spate of trolls on PH recently and no shortage of people feeding them!I understand posting a funny/sarcastic/trolly post now and again... But posting threads for no other purpose than to look like a cock and get people to tell you you're a cock... I don't see the point.

Am I the only one that thinks anyone doing this should be shot? Yes it's daft if someone leaves a dog inside a locked car, but it's not your dog or your car. It's plain criminal damage and people are made out to be heroes for smashing someone's window in.
Ignore the troll. It does worry me how ready people seem to be to smash a car windown with a dog inside.
I get concenred leaving my dog for 2 minutes if it's above 18 degrees outside, in case some "hero" comes and smashes the window because I've been "cruel"
I would never leave her in a situation that could be harmful to her, but a few minutes is always going to be okay unless it's crazy hot out and I'm not sure (especiially judging by some comments in this thread) that people will give it any time at all before breaking in!

I don't understand why you wouldn't leave at least one window open a few cm even if your only away for a few minutes.I get concenred leaving my dog for 2 minutes if it's above 18 degrees outside, in case some "hero" comes and smashes the window because I've been "cruel"

I'd leave all four windows open, but I don't think it would stop someone smashing them becuase they thought they were doing the right thing.
I had to smash a window in a neighbours car as their two year old daughter had locked herself in with the keys. The neighbour was there. Point of posting though is that before I did it I covered the glass with duck tape so no glass was showered over the inside of the car, worked a treat and made it easy to get in without cutting your arm.

Good advice, useful for breaking and entering too I'd warrant! Joking aside the police take a dim view of smashing windows under the circumstances, particularly if the dog is not in distress (it doesn't count if someone is winding them up outside the car) but will do it and will prosecute people who leave dogs in hot cars. A friend's cousin's dog went for a ball throwing run around, cousin left the (quietly panting) dog on a cool (c12°C overcast) day for actually 5mins and came back to a broken window and two irate police officers. They looked a bit sheepish when it was pointed out that the dog had been running around and wasn't distressed but they hadn't thought of that or the conditions. I used to have a sign to stick up but mine is not so energetic anymore.
I usually have mine in the car most of the year when I'm working but I leave him at home if it's too hot and have a UV blind system such as:-
http://www.carshades.co.uk/
And leave the windows minimum 6" down, reflective sunshade one windscreen and check the dog/ car q10mins max if it's not parked in the shade. Often leave the boot open too (dog in back seat/ dog guard). If it's unexpectedly too hot I attach his lead to a door in the shade or even chuck just him in a stable. If you can't do this/ can't check them this often I'd leave them at home.
Nb blinds are good at keeping the dog in the car if other dogs come calling and they want to have a discussion
A few years back at Leuchars Air Show a big white dog was seen comatose in a hot car. It's head was tucked under a rug as if to seek some relief from the hot sun. A bit of a crowd gathered and the side glass was duly smashed. The dog showed no sign of life despite gentle patting. Jackets were willingly proffered to form shade. Water was rushed from a nearby refreshment tent spilling from a hastily filled jug. Police arrived, took control of the situation and carefully turned the poor thing over to reveal the awful truth told by the Hamleys label stitched alongside the zip.
