4 y/o terrier cross.

He's been off his food and vomiting for the last couple of days, the last proper meal he's had was on Thursday evening. Although he's drinking okay and keeping that down.

Tried with the usual treats and titbits just not interested. To tempt him we gave him some scrambled egg this morning. Managed it, but bought it back 4hrs later.

Managed the usual walk yesterday but just wants to sleep today. No stools (that I know of!) since thursday.

What to do? Seems a bit early to get a vet involved.

I wouldn't say it was too early to involve a vet. With vomiting and no stools I would be concerned about a possible blockage. Does he eat things he shouldn't? (Toys, socks, etc)

He's never eaten anything he shouldn't...........yet.

Just found a tiny (freshish) stool in the back garden, looked like it was a struggle though.

I'd say consult a vet. A colleague of daughter delayed with one of her dogs as he seemed to be getting better and keeping stuff down, but then later back to vomiting. When he was eventually taken turned out he'd swallowed a glove despite no previous history of eating random items. Unfortunately necrosis had set in on part of his stomach and things would have been easier if taken to vet earlier. I'd reckon you have 3 symptoms, vomiting, loss of appetite, difficulty defecating, to the vet asap I say.

Hope everything works out fine, best wishes.

Please take him to be checked, just to be on the safe side, too many cases are seen where owners thought it too early to get them checked only to find out had we'd seen them earlier we could have saved owners a lot of cost, the pets a lot of distress (and in some cases saved a life frown )

It will save you worrying over the weekend aswell.

We went to vets, diagnosis Gastroenteritis. So gave him a Jab, some stuff in a tube to put on his food plus some tablets, to start once the vomiting stops.

Advised to give him light easy to digest stuff for a couple of days.

Thanks all.

It's never too early to take a dog to the vet especially if you have a breed which doesn't really show signs of pain or discomfort.

Dogs do get ill from time to time, so anything that lasts more than a day or if their behaviour changes then get them to the vets ASAP.

I'd also say that if you really know your dog and feel something is up, don't just accept the vets word for it, insist on getting blood work done.

Stopped vomiting and looking livelier, stools still a bit runny. Turning his nose up @ kibbles but enjoying, chicken, rice and scrambled eggs.

Chicken and rice is our go to food for the Golden when he has a stomach upset. Anthropomorphism of his reaction when it's time to reintroduce kibble into the diet puts a speech balloon above him with "what the actual F...!"

Sometimes I reckon, being a garbage hound who is clearly never ever fed properly you'd think, he eats something dodgy just to get on his chicken diet for a few days. Saturday morning walks are always a trial, despite careful route selection there's always one bit near the river where the gauntlet of Friday night takeaway discards have to be examined in the hope of a few chips with curry sauce, he found a battered sausage dropped in the undergrowth last month. rolleyes

^This.

Sure, probably, hopefully 9 times out of 10 it's nothing serious, but there's the one time where they've been poisoned or contracted a serious condition that you;d never want to risk going un-diagnosed.

We've just been the 1 time out of 10 when it was and lost our pup on Saturday morning. I'll write a post when I can.
