We have a rottie cross, very good natured, inquisitive, bit daft about 4-5 years old - he was a rescue so entire origins unknown but we've never had any trouble with him behaviour wise.

i've wanted a cat for a long time but due to mess and the dog been put off. I have been offered by a family friend a female two year old bengal but wondered if it was a complete non-starter and not fair on the dog or aside from a few introductory issues whether they will get on after that?

hard to know until you try I guess but I don't want to stress either animal out as it is the dogs home first he will take priority.

any one have any experience of similar and any specific advice?

thanks in advance

Provided both can have their space and get away from each other, I think with time and patience you can make it work.

We'd had our Bengal 5 years when we introduced our rescue dog. The cat made it very clear he was in charge from day 1 and the dog tows the line. We've rescued 2 more cats since and the dog treats all cats with the respect that the Bengal demands so he did the training for us.

thanks - I've looked on other forums and there doesn't seem to be too much out there on this particular topic that I've found.

There is a lot on whether to let them out or and as our dog loves to be outside on the back lawn i'd worry the cat will be affected by not being able to be outside....

it is a worry
