New cat. He's not up to much.

King Louie is dead. Long live king Louie.
fking crap.
So today he's had bloods, scans etc and the vet narrowed it to two possibilities. Both st. Final stage liver failure (his liver was much much smaller than expect) or FIP, which is of course only really diagnosable by autopsy and is not curable. So he's had the choice of st sandwich or a st sandwich.
The vet was reluctant to even let us take him home... Sure he'd be with us and comfy but essentially if starvation and dehydration didn't get him first he'd be having an uncomfortable death by liver failure. So we decided there and then to put him to sleep....
3.5 weeks we've had him. But at least it was a comfortable 3.5 weeks and he didn't have to die in that crummy damp cat sanctuary (sanctuary is overstatement of the year).
I'd even bought him super posh yummy treats for his return. But doubt he'd have eaten them even if he did come back; his tummy was full of fluid buildup
Not a good year for us with cats. We only lost our Queen B a few months ago.

You did the best anyone could do .
1 made his final 3 weeks the most comfy of his life and
2 made the hardest but best choice for the cat so it didn't have to go thru any pain
it's far easier saying all that than actually doing it though , i still feel guilty having our setter put to sleep in 2015 despite the fact she had liver poisoning and despite being flushed thru twice was loosing the fight.
Well done for giving the cat a decent , comfy 3 weeks.

Condolences OP. My mum & dad had to let theirs go due to a failing liver meaning he would have only known discomfort in his final weeks. Take solace from the fact that, due to you rescuing him and doing the kindest thing for him at the end, the life he'll have had for those few weeks will have been happy.
