Each time, it hurts like hell, but at the end it's the last decent thing we can do for them.
In time you will be able to remember the good bits of your time together without, most at least, of the pain.

Yeah totally true.

Over the last couple of years we've gone from 3 dogs to 1 and over time you do remember the funny things your pets did instead of being sad.

Her pal is wandering a little lost, looking for her. My worry is how she's going to adapt to being a lone cat.
Sorry to read your news, but clearly had a good long time together.

When we lost one of ours about a year and a half ago (failed to outrun a car rather than age) his sister was quiet for a few days but actually has blossomed into a much more affectionate and vocal cat. He was the 'chatty' one before, but she seems to have found her voice now its just her. Like us they'll adapt in their own way.

I am so sorry. Always a difficult time but it can be a relief as well (which we is an understandable emotion to have) it will be hard especially if you see your other cat struggling but hopefully with a bit of time it will get easier.

All I can suggest is lots of extra attention some favourite treat food to ensure he keeps an appetite and allow time.

Thanks Bex.

Mitzi has actually stopped the wandering and looking very quickly. She knew Willow was unwell and I think she understood how serious it was - the interactions between them changed in the last week, with Mitzi being very gentle and respectful towards her friend. She's eating fine, but has been a little more attentive.

We're going away for a few days this week, but instead of the cat sitter popping in a couple of times a day, we've got Mrs Trabi's mum coming to stay to look after Mitzi.

When we get back, we're going to consider options, as the house feels empty without another cat - especially as Mitzi is Mrs Trabi's cat, whilst Willow was mine (at least, that's how the cats had allocated the humans, anyway!).

Been thinking a couple of juvenile females who need re-homing together.

Sorry to hear.

We are going to be in the same position soon.

Our cat Murphy is pretty much as you described. He's nearly 20 though. My wife got him from the cat home 18 years ago and they said they thought he was about 2 then so a pretty good innings.

He's also lost a lot of weight and is deaf as a post. Like yours he still has a healthy appetite and seems well enough in himself for his age.

Not going to be too long before we also have to make the call though.

Went through this with mine at the end of January. Very similar scenario from what you have put with lots of tooing and froing to the vets at the end. Bloods were all reasonable, looking like she perhaps had an infection. A review of the x rays showed she had a mass under her spine pressing on her digestive tract. She went downhill quickly in the end.
I too cried lots in the last few days leading up to that visit to the vets.
The last words I said to her were 'love you cat' and that was that.
You have my sympathy.
