I used to be allergic to cats until I brought 2 kittens home 4 or 5 years ago. After a few month I was 'cured'.

I no longer live in the family home but have no problems visiting there or other cat homes.

My girlfriend since October has a large black neutered Tom 7 years old and I spend a bit of time at hers and apart from an itchy roof of mouth the cat has not caused me any problems. Even though he quite often sleeps on our bed.

Well she has had to go away for 2 weeks and I am looking after Jeff the cat. He came 2 days ago and has settled in really well but I am sneezing, coughing and feeling pretty miserable. Definitely an allergy feeling rather than a cold.

How can this be?

Is it something to do with Spring and shedding fur?

I've locked myself in the bathroom to try and breathe untainted air but he's outside pawing the door and crying because he wants me to run the cold bath tap.

He likes drinking running water.

It is 'allergy season' with all the flowering cherry trees, daffodils and birch trees that are out there.

I'd look to these before blaming puss.

But, in either respect, it does get better. I was mildly allergic to our cat, Norman, but it has improved over time. Same with trees.

It's weird as my hayfever had all but gone away in the past few years.

Getting old so other problems to contend with lol.

It's definitely Jeff the cat. Feel fine outside, comes on as soon as I go indoors.

Kinda kept at bay with daily tablets and nasal spray but my kids, that come from a cat filled house, are suffering as well, just after staying a day.
