Lovely dogs we had 2 when growing up. They are like your best mate. Sad when they passed at 14 and 11.
Favourite breed for me and so friendly and happy go lucky.

Meet Esther, our rescue Boxer (we think) X Staff. Her passport says she's a Boxer, but she's small and her head's not quite right for a full breed. When we got her from the rescue she was estimated to be 18 months old, and had clearly already had a litter. She weighed in at a pitiful 14kg, she looked like something from an RSPCA advert - it took us a full year to get her weight up to 21.5kg, where it has remained to this day.
Regardless of our opinion, she thinks she's a Boxer and has all of the daft character traits that the breed normally has.
She's an old lady now, between 8 and 9 years old. The picture was taken when she was about 3 or 4. She's got a bit of arthritis from an old injury before we got her and we've just nursed her through a suspected ACL injury on a hind leg - 3 months of lead only walks. She was not impressed. Getting back to normal now, just trying to stop her from jumping and twisting when playing with other dogs, which is how she did it in the first place!!

Don’t see any locally.

A friend had one called Busa (Suzuki Hayabusa, get it?) long time ago.

This is Murphy, who we lost a couple of weeks ago. Great dog, bringing in a pup a couple of years ago gave him a new lease of life. 13 years of happy memories: boxers are great!
Sorry for your loss of Murphy - Lovely boy!
My wife and daughter are pushing for a 2nd Boxer, but I’m not sure I can manage the chaos!! rotate
We decided on another big dog, but a change of breed- you are right about two boxers leading to chaos.

Fantastic breed and as someone commented above, I've never met a bad / aggressive one that I can recall, and I've known quite a few over the years. Some were a bit barky but other than that, just big puppies laugh

Ace dogs, but the two I've known well were scatterbrained puppies until they were about three years old. smile

My father's favourite breed since he saw them in Palestine after the war, although the RAF's airfield guard dogs were somewhat less than cuddly, apparently. The dog he finally acquired after he retired was fantastic (eventually - he did once almost chew his way through the kitchen door!). He appointed himself my young daughter's guardian and used to sleep outside the bedroom when she stayed overnight.

In Germany they are known as the Nanny dog, and I remember mum saying our one would keep checking on us the whole time we had a baby sitter.

It’s great to see other people’s appreciation for the Boxer on this thread, and your lovely pals.cloud9

‘Nanny Dog’ does ring true with the breed - they are very loyal and protective of their family (pack). When walking, Maverick is always checking that all humans are present and will wait if someone drops behind. He also sleeps with us - not the best idea, as he’s over 5 foot fully stretched out, and will physically push you towards the edge of the bed!!! rolleyes

This is what we have to deal with and wake up to!! rofl

We have a boxer - Piper - 3 and a half. She’s a proper loon and a lot of fun, makes us laugh every day. I do find they have almost human like expressions

Pic below.

One question for fellow owners: how does your dog react to other dogs? For piper, she can turn quite easily and be aggressive. I’ve spent approx 1.5 years slowly building her confidence and she’s much better but there’s still the tendency to react. With humans she’s fine. Just other dogs.
I’ve learnt her signals pretty well and intervene before anything bad happens, but it’s just disheartening when you are judged on having an aggressive dog!
Rest of her traingjng is great: good recall, waits by the road to cross (off the lead, in the country) and sits waits etc.
just the reaction to other dogs seems a tougher nut to crack.

Ex girlfriend had one, utterly mad!
Used to bark and growl at me- I would tell him to shut up- and then he would sit on my lap and not move!
