Puppy peeing question

Firstly let me introduce Bertie a 13 week Basset Fauve de Bretagne.



Now onto the issue.... since about 10weeks he's been clean in the house, asks to go out of the back door and performs.

However, never goes to p or p when we take him for a walk out of the front door.

Admittedly walks aren't long, 500m a couple of times a day, happy to go out, watches our other dog do what's required but refuses, however as soon as we get home he goes through to the garden and performs!!

Is this an issue or will he grow out of it?

If he needed a pee he's have one. It's a non issue. When desperate they let it go.

We took a dog out for the day, must have been desperate so laid paper down to replicate going inside the door then outside the door. Nothing, got home, serious river! about eight hours he hung onto it.

Teach a `toilet` command - Wait until he pees / s*its say toilet and go mildly mental in high pitched idiot voice, treat etc whatever floats his boat.

Use toilet command when out and about.

yep Toilet command works well in the garden.... just doesn't have any effect when out and about!!

We wondered if it was becuase he had a lead on but he quite happily P&P with a lead on when in the garden, he's even quite happy p&ping in other peoples gardens just not when out and about (even on a football pitch)... god knows we'll just keep working with him and I'm sure he'll get over it at some point......

Tbh I don't see an issue here, the pup is only 10 weeks old, it's too early to judge about any habits. It all things are done outside the house - there is nothing to worry about.
I've had the similar situation with my frenchie - before she made it to 6 months - I needed to walk her for 2+ hours in order to p&p. Imagine my happiness in winter. When she grew up everything became fine. So don't worry.

I think he will grow out of it as he becomes more confident in his surroundings. It's pretty vulnerable having a pee in public afterall.

When my dog was young she refused to leave the end of the driveway for walks. I even had the dog trainer take a look and he wasn't able to get her to leave the premises.

Eventually though she gained confidence and walks could commence. She now toilets in the same field on every walk.

Your home and garden is a safe place for the dog so toileting feels safe there rather than out in public at the moment.

^ I think your right. My 3 year old dog still looks for a bush to st under but he'll happily pee in public. He's very private when having his dumps. Has never gone on the pavement. Got him at 17 weeks and he house trained himself in 2 days, result!

They are all different, we've a Fox Terrier 5 years old who won't pee or poo on the road or pavement she has to be on grass or soil.

Another one 16 months she will pee or poo anywhere outside, but the drive is the favourite place for a pee, loads of stains on the tarmac.
