Rather windy round here at the moment.. KaraK-cat was trying to pounce on the wind UP the fireplace last night. Think it's a reasonable bet that she won't be getting in to Cat MENSA any time soon! Ended up having to tape cardboard over both fireplaces hehe

Thanks for the kind words everybody. The house feels very empty today frown

My wife has been in bits, plus our first child is imminent (due date tomorrow!) which just doesn't feel very important now. Hopefully it will occupy our minds when it does arrive though, then we can consider getting another cat in a few weeks or months.

This handsome fellow belongs to one of our neighbours (or perhaps it's the other way round...?)...

Our old boy Merlin has had a rough week. Just diagnosed with Diabetes so off to the vet tonight hopefully pick up some insulin. He must be 16-17 now (rescue cat) and the sweetest personality you could hope for. So loving and cuddly. Just constantly hungry and thirsty now.

Pretty sure this will be a relatively short term fix and we dont have too much longer with him. frown

Wow, stunning!
My parents cat was injected twice a day for years.
Didn't affect him at all and must have lived to 20-21.
Hopefully many more happy years yet smile

Yeah hopefully. his blood sugar is at 38 or something, should be < 20, so its a larger dose of insulin, long acting one so hopefully only 1 a day.

He's always been one of those cats who shows his age, gone through stages, teen years etc now very much an old cat but still pretty active, though some joint pain mostly from damage done to him as a kitten (got kicked damage tail and rear).

So insulin, needles, sharps bin and the first 2 feeds/injections out of the way.

He does seem to be perking up now though it could eb 2 weeks before he really gets back to normal if everything goes ok with his dosage. Next week he will spend the day at the vets getting his levels checked.

Hi all

We have just picked up our first two rescue cats a week ago. Both 30 months old and have lived together with each other and other cats for their lives so far. One is bold as brass and the other is very jumpy and hides a fair bit.

As a complete novice we have a concern if anyone is able to offer any advice.

Both cats chase each other a lot around the house. No hissing but they both end up in a ball taking swipes. If they walk past one another then one will usually take a swipe. They don't really show any affection towards each other but will sit reasonably close when not chasing. They will also sleep on our bed near each other. They have had brief moments of cleaning the other too but only just a couple of licks.

No damage so far and I haven't found any clumps missing anywhere on them.

Is this normal for them settling in to a new place, trying to assert themselves? I imagine they are not used to having no other company from other cats which shows at eating time as they seem to be expecting a herd of hungry mouths about to appear at any moment. They have a litter tray each but usually use the same one, again I guess something they are used to.

Both are female and it's a learning curve as just when you think there isn't space for a cat to squeeze into then you're proven comprehensively wrong!

All sounds normal enough to me, we had two cats that would chase each other from time to time, actually it was the big one that would chase the little one, if he caught her there would be a bit of a tussle but nothing much. They weren't friends as such but would tolerate each other quite well.

The eating will probably slow down a bit, when we used to foster cats they lived in pens in the garden, and always ate whatever they were given immediately. Once they found homes they would do the same for a while, then end up behaving like settled cats (leaving whatever they didn't fancy at the time, sometimes eating it later, sometimes not.

These two will be ready to pick up this weekend:

So looking forward to having cats back in the house! Think they might grow to be quite big (10 weeks old in this picture). cloud9

Not sure why he needs a day there, it's just a blood test. Ours is 16 and is diabetic now for the third time. They can go into remission but it can return as we have found out.

It's nice to have a break though from the injections as it interferes with your social life!

Keep at it, if his levels are easy to control he will settle with a couple of weeks and lead a normal life of course.

We have a new member of our family, after finding 3 abandoned kittens in the local forest. A few of us spent a week trying to trap them and luckily 2 were caught. The fate of the 3rd one is sadly unknown.

So this is Ariel, named for the Ariel Atom and because she was dumped in the forest close to an ariel/tv mast. The vet reckons she is around 10 weeks old, and apart from ticks, ear mites and fleas is in good shape.
