We have a new member of our family, after finding 3 abandoned kittens in the local forest. A few of us spent a week trying to trap them and luckily 2 were caught. The fate of the 3rd one is sadly unknown.
So this is Ariel, named for the Ariel Atom and because she was dumped in the forest close to an ariel/tv mast. The vet reckons she is around 10 weeks old, and apart from ticks, ear mites and fleas is in good shape.
Good for you taking her in. So this is Ariel, named for the Ariel Atom and because she was dumped in the forest close to an ariel/tv mast. The vet reckons she is around 10 weeks old, and apart from ticks, ear mites and fleas is in good shape.
Over the last few days my cat has decided he's no longer going to eat dry food. For a short while I was able to take it out the bowl and put it back in but he's gotten wise to that now. I bought another brand yesterday but he wasn't interested in either. He will eat wet food but only eats the jelly, not the chunks, so I can't imagine he's getting much nutrition from it. Will try and find a small bag of the exact Royal Canin he was eating and see if I have any joy with that. Have noticed he's "air chomping" quite a lot lately and has had hiccups for about 6 months or so but that doesn't seem to have bothered him. Not sure if it's just age (he'll be 16 next week) or if it's worth speaking to the vet?
Mine started doing that. Took him to the vet, and he had an inflamed gum at his back right-hand teeth.
Vet took the teeth out, and that mostly sorted it out (so he was eating normally) but after a couple of months, it started up again.
He was on antibiotics and steroids for a month or two, and then just antibiotics for another few weeks. The vet didn't want to give him any more, and hoped that he'd recover by himself - which he did.
While we were waiting for it to all take effect, we fed him gravy based food that we mashed and microwaved - which he ate.
He's now eating everything - dried and wet (with the odd mouse thrown in), despite having half of his teeth removed. He's 14, BTW.

I would take him to the vet. If he is looking for moisture it could be something.
Is he drinking a lot?
Doesn't seem to be that much, but has been destroying raw chicken and his soft treats, so at least I know it's not something that's stopped his appetite. I did figure out that the red stuff on his paws wasn't blood, but the dust from the litter Have booked in for a vet visit Friday morning. Is he drinking a lot?

Not sure why he needs a day there, it's just a blood test. Ours is 16 and is diabetic now for the third time. They can go into remission but it can return as we have found out.
It's nice to have a break though from the injections as it interferes with your social life!
Keep at it, if his levels are easy to control he will settle with a couple of weeks and lead a normal life of course.
Just the way the vets do it over here, was in yesterday, still high sugar levels so dose doubled. Not surprising. Poor guy is hungry all the time. still making progress i thinkIt's nice to have a break though from the injections as it interferes with your social life!

KaraK-cat has been letting her batst-crazy side off the chain a bit this week - she spent a few days having obsessive digging moments in one specific corner of her litter tray (showering the surrounding area in litter, naturally), this didn't seem to be affected at all by me cleaning out the tray completely and refreshing with new litter. This seems to have calmed down the last day or two thank god!
I did have to laugh yesterday though - I popped home about 3-ish and upon nipping to the bathroom I discovered she had created a neat little pile of her toys in the middle of the bathroom floor, given when I left they were scattered across different rooms in the house it must have been like a little scavenger hunt for her

Took him to the vets and she couldn't find anything amiss, with gums, heartbeat and temperature being fine. He has lost a kilo since last time but at 4.2 she wasn't unduly worried. Blood tests will be back Monday but hopefully it does look as if he just got fed up of it. Had a right old meow when I walked into the vets but seemed to have no objections to having a thermometer up the bum! I then had a similar shock to be told that I was paying £102 for that.
One of our previous cats was diabetic. Took a while to stabilise the dose then it was twice daily injections. He was like that for years.
One of our current rescue cats also used to have hiccups. That was caused by gum infections and poor teeth. She had eight taken out and is like a different character.
