Why does it have to be sedated?

Without sounding too cruel I'd just hogtie the little feller and get someone to hold him down while I got the clippers out.
Have you ever "owned" a cat? They are the "Chuck Norris" of the pet world.
They are unbelievably strong when cornered. Ours has overpowered me on several occasions just to escape his annual trip to the vets.
Yep if anyone has had a "pet" cat they will relate to this

Ahahahahahahahahhahahahaahaha!

Your cat looks rather daft and you're going to get your balls sliced off by cat claws in your sleep!

As for the 'trip to the vet' thread, I goddamn near wet myself!

I love cats. They're so cute and furry and you can play fight with them. That must be what they're capable of right? Wrong!

That is the look of a cat plotting revenge.

Here speaks a person who has never been owned by a cat......

The noise of the clippers can scare them for starters, and once the claws are out, it's a trip to A&E..
Perhaps I have misunderstood then, I was speaking from the point of someone who had tried to administer ear drops to an unwilling Weimeraner that could put his paws on my shoulders and I'm 6'1. smile

Oh dear....Problem is now he's been shaved it's even more likely he'll matt up again next time. Pity they could have just thinned his hair rather than shaved. Try and groom every day even from now.

My maine coone will develop knots in one day. When it starts to happen it would only take a few days for it too become a problem.

Having said that when cats get really badly matted the full on shave is the only answer (I hate doing it though - to other cats, never had to do it to mine I'm glad to say!)

Hmmm just got woken up by a cat sat 6 inches from my head staring at me. I think i'll get my will in order eek

sadly shaving him was the only option, it was getting bad enough to effect the skin underneath. I kid you not you've never seen a cat dislike a brush so much. Nothing will cam him down, and even with welding gauntlets on you fast end up looking like the victim of a nail bombing. Plus a quick run with the clippers have provided me with so much comedy biggrin

he used to be an indoor cat in dubai where his fur was ace, never a knot, tat or matt at all. He's gone damn near feral here and when he's shedding in full flow it's impossible to keep on top of. By the time you're finished taking the vegetation and bits of tree from him he's in a foul mood!

So until he's furry again, he shall be a source of amusement smile

Fantastic use of language that had me in tears!

And now I have to contemplate taking my siberean kibble slaying felt manufacturing center to be groomed. Bugger.

Try finding a groomer that'll do cats or get him booked in more quickly/ frequently at the vets. Some cars don't knot up too bsdly until moulting begins, as soon as you detect a few more knots than normal get him booked into wherever and get them to comb out the knots rather than shave if they can and groom him thoroughly all over. My cat will go weeks with no knotting but if she starts to moult more than usual I check her every day and groom out the knots before they become proper matts. Matts can occur within a couple of weeks which is why it can occur quite quickly!

At least it is the summer smile

Pah, dogs are nothing compared to cats. I regularly administer ear drops to an unhappy 10 stone dog who stands 29" to the shoulder.

Cats are like a whirling dervish...

I had similar experiences playing strip poker with my sister's cats. They used to get VERY scared whenever they heard the clippers.

When mine get matts, she will just lie there and let me cut them out with scissors, This is quite amazing especially when they are on her neck.. I can imagine she is fighting hard her inbuilt nature to run when something is going for her neck..
