I live in a quiet rural area but we still worry about the cats going out. But I think the biggest worry with Bengals is that they will climb int a delivery van and get driven away. Tescos and the postman have learnt to check carefully every time they visit us!My 4 year old made a list of names and in the end she decided on 'Stardust'
I too am worried about him being stolen.I don't want him to be a house cat and we live in a quietish area trafficwise so he will eventually have free access outside through his catflap.We will microchip him in a few months and I suppose that because he is registered to us then he couldn't be resold for a lot of money.It's just a risk that we are going to have to take to allow him his freedom.

Our two will be inside cats for now, untill I work out how they get from the 1st floor to the ground 
However there are lots of bengals around here, so I'm not too worried.
Went and bought all the kit tonight, very excited for the little buggers now

They are still a little wary of me when I walk into their room but they soon settle down, they let me stroke them and start purring etc, I guess it comes with time.
Can't wait for them to have run of the place.

Mei Mei (our litle girl) started of shy and fortunately she is still wary of strangers but friendly to us. It does just take time.
The fact that you have 2 at the same time should help them settle faster, are they from the same litter?
Well they've come on leaps an bounds in only a couple of days, at first they were hiding all the time, earlier I had them playing with some toys, and the girl was trying to get her head in the bowl while I was preparing their food.

I've long been a dog person but I'm away a bit too much during the day to make a dog work I think. My next door neighbours have recently got a couple of cats and, having spent time with them, I'm seeing the appeal of a cat!
We won't be able to have a cat flap (rented) but have a reasonably mature garden with shed and things to climb around so ideally looking for a cat who's happy in a home but also not going to wander off massively when we let them outside. I also don't want them to be too territorial as I don't want to banish the neighbours cats from my garden (they only have decking so like the idea of them exploring around ours)
I am looking for a low-shedding cat with "dog-like" behaviour and 2 breeds keep coming up on search - Bengal and Ocicats. Ocicats seem almost impossible to find so the Bengal looks to be the ideal little beastie.
A few questions from a cat noob:
I am open to having two - is this for best if so is it best to get from the same litter?
Females better than males? Would be neutered either way
I live in sunny Surbiton, is theft a real issue for "breed" cats? If so is it more from crap areas as normal or steal to order type?
Will Bengals be ok being left alone in the house for (vmax) 10 hours on a day? I'd be getting towers to climb and puzzle toys (and as mentioned maybe a second for company)
Are they up for being petted? I miss having a dog to fuss over and don't want a cat that fecks off all the time!
Are they mild-tempered? I'm also not up for a fight every time I need to care for it
How long / hard are they to train? Litter and ensuring my furniture isn't murder-death-killed when I'm away (Yes a scratching post would be on the list!)
How loud and vocal are they? The neighbours cat is a lovely little chap and chatters away but doesn't yowl all night - that's ideal for me (appreciate it's an individual thing but how's the breed generally?)

Hey Phil, whilst Bengals are lovely cats, there are thousands of moggies needing good homes right now. Looking at the less commercial shelters than RSPCA, CPL may be cheaper and easier to home a deserving kitty (or two siblings ) if you can't comply to their standards because you are renting.
Please, please give this idea a go, your future kitty overlords will thank you!

Yup rescue was actually my starting place but then started doing a bit of investigating on the idea of bringing one up. I'm still interested in a rescue but slightly worried that I get something a bit nuts or anti-social. The idea of getting a youngster would be that we'd be bonding and learning together.
Definitely not off the cards yet though, may even do both and get a kitten Bengal and rescue as a companion as the buggers aren't cheap!
Still early doors yet as not planning on getting one until September at least so not rushing into anything.
