ok I'm hooked and I dont even own a tank!

Bought my sister one (fluval 48ltr) and then only 2 days later managed to get one donated (few years old but in good nick, came with filter built in, heater, peddle cleaner amongst other handy bits to have!)

Have been helping her to get the fluval on its feet, have stuck with plastic plants for now just to help keep things easy for both of us! got 3 neon tetras 1st and today 3 various Platies. Looking at probably some guppies (because they're pretty hehe) and maybe a crab or 2. would you say 5-6 of each would be about the max for that size tank?

now for the 125L, we are planning on filling this later once we have learnt a bit more and decided on what kind of tank she wants BUT it came with one fish (i think he ate the others hehe) he's been named davey (from davey Jones from pirates of the Caribbean) and is a fairly good sized featherfin catfish (about 10years old I believe.

Now as I understand he will consume anything that will fit in his mouth and if it doesnt he will probably try to eat the fins and eyes etc. so really not sure what to do with him or what to put in with him? Ideally I think we would love to find a loving home for him as he seems to have really come out of his shell since we cleaned the tank up as it was heavin when we got it and has got a lovely dorsil fin.

(pic when we 1st got him and transferred him into the Fluval before we had any new fish!)

will get some pics of the tank up when I go round again with me camera and with no doubt be asking for bits of advice here and there! I am a complete and utter noob with fish!

Tanks that small aren't much use for fishkeeping in all honesty - they're glorified table centrepieces. Half a dozen ember tetras or a single dwarf puffer would be about the limit.

How big is the featherfin? He looks about 6-8 inches from the photo (difficult to judge) so personally I'd be very uncomfortable leaving him in a 125L tank - I'd want a 180L as a minimum given how active they can be.

Ye I know its tiny, was only thinkin of maybe half dozen tetras or a couple of guppys, though may use it now as a safe tank as my sister has both male and female platys, so will probably start breeding quite soon from what I have heard.

Yup the featherfin is fully grown and probably about 8inches, tbh like I said above we are after a new home for him as all the fish that can cope with him are way out of our knowledge atm.

Agree the tank is too small for the Euptera.

For little Fluval, consider Shrimp, some really great options around these days (Rili, CRS, Golden Yellow etc), I keep 20 CRS in a 13l Dymax Pico, no fish, great to watch.

I can see this being extremely pretty when the moss has grown in more. Are you going to allow the water to blacken naturally?

Naff phone pics I'm afraid.
23l Fluval Edge, Amazonian. 7x Neon tetras. I wanted killifish, my mrs wanted "the blue and red ones".

125l Juwel Rio. Congo/west African. 3x Congo tetra, 1x Longfin Characin, 3x Yellow tail congo tetra, 1x jewel cichlid, 2x upside down catfish.
1x Leopard ctenopoma - given to a friend as it liked the taste of tetra tail.

Before anyone points out that last picture does feature a one eyed fish. It's wild caught and I didn't pay for it.

The unmistakable rainbow of a healthy Congo! If anything they've got better since that photo was taken. My phone camera just can't do them justice.

Lovely shrimp tank Dxb!

Couple of recent pics of my main tank, still working on my side project tanks.

Main tank is almost almost complete! Stocking is:

6 Keyhole Cichlids (2 adult, 4 juvie)
1 Geophagus Redhead Tapajos
15 Rummynose Tetra
2 Harlequin Rasbora (Last of the 10 I got when I set the tank up, wont be replacing these after these 2 go)
1 Albino BN
1 BN
5 Peppered Corys
4 Ottos
2 African Dwarf Frogs
1 Golden Apple Snail
3 Platys (Getting re-homed)
2 Plakat bettas (Getting re-homed also)

Only next addition will be 1 more pleco (L200 or L46) if I feel that it won't push me over the limit. Tank dimensions are 100*40*50 cm, filtration comes from a Fluval 205, 206 and U4. Tank is heated to 26 degrees. I clean 1 filter per week and perform 2 30% water changes on a Sunday and then Thursday.

Pics..Excuse the glass, just finished a bit of overdue maintenance.

Apologies that it's only a phone pic - but thought this thread has been quiet for a while so a quick bump can't hurt!

One of my (many) Red Cherry Shrimp having a little graze. Unfortunately the photo doesn't do him justice as he is actually a fantastic dark red colour so has escaped becoming fish food.

Yes - I have a bit of a snail problem, but a merry band of assasin snails will be dealing with it as soon as they've finished in one of my other tanks.

Oops, completely forgot to check back in on this thread.

Errrm, well the moss is struggling, producing lovely brown algae and not much more.

The wood cam from an existing tank so all the tannins had leached already so the water is staying quite clear.

It now houses some C. panda and I am going to add an Apisto pair I have in my main tank to this one.
