We have 2 rumbling tumbling crazy little kittens born 24.12.10 and have been thinking about getting them covered as vet bills seem to be pretty steep. Anyone have any pointers? All replies appreciated.

We got a months free cover with petplan, and then they called up and sold us the 12 month package for about a tenner per cat per month.

This is for fairly pricey Bengals, so I guess it would be less for normal moggies.

Im with Healthy Pets. One adult girl and two 6 month old boys - think the girl is circa £6pm, and the boys £5pm each. Thats their basic 'bronze' cover up to £1000 IIRC.

Girl would be circa £4 after a couple of years, but we made a claim on her policy - was very impressed, no quibble and paid promptly. Also will pay vet direct if your vet allows it.

Have been quite impressed with them.

No it is expected (and to be fair rightly so) that owners pay for all routine things themselves such as vaccinations, food, flea and worm treatment, identichipping, routine neutering etc.

Enzo and Portia self-insure - they put £15 per month into a savings fund every month in case they're ill in future. Given how much the monthly fees ramp up as they get older and given how high the excesses are, we agreed that made sense. They are thinking about moving into Premium Bonds though.

Edited for typo.

Pet plan.

Think its about 7 quid per moggy - we've also got two youngsters.

Fingers crossed it'll be money wasted and i'll never need to claim smile

You know what I mean though, insuring a Ferrari costs more than a Mondeo hehe

Shall I stop talking now?

I've had a chat with my cat explained the basic economic issue of replacement vs repair. I've also told her the cost of a replacement cat. I think we understand each other!!

We've just started doing this for our dogs, it get's expensive as they get older and this way, if you don't claim you keep the money!

Top Idea This!

Exactly.

My auntie has one old cat at the moment that is costing them an absolute fortune.

Regular blood tests, an appoitment a week at the moment, over night stays, regualr medication.

As I say an absolute fortune.

Vets bills are apparently hundreds and hundreds for even something fairly simple these days, our breeder said it had rocketed in the last 5 years.

I *think* she mentioned £75 for the blood tests, and approx £100 for each of the overnight stays with monitoring.

15 quid a month won't last long if you get a properly ill cat.

Which is why I'm still surprised a spay is only costing us £65 and they keep her for 5 days!!!

How come???

I know they're posh cats rather than garden moggys but our spaying and neutering were both done without an overnight stay!

I don't know to be honest - these are our first two cats.

But we dropped them in for half 8 one morning and picked them both up (one M one F) about 16:00.

Big white cone collar for her and nothing for him. They were a bit sleepy but by late evning they were running around as if almost nothing had happened.
