Was in Bali a couple of years ago. Stayed in Nusa Dua. Half time in the The Laguna Resort then next door in the Nusa Dua Beach for the remainder. The Laguna was far far better than the Beach, nicer rooms, cleaner, better pools by a mile. The grounds of the Beach were overrun by squirrels hopping across the parasols above the tables, my missus was totally freaked by it. She absolutely hated Bali! Food in Bali (esp Ubud) was amazing, best thing about it. Don't think I'd ever go back though, too many mangey dogs and the pervasive smell of piss. It was not quite the island paradise she expected!

Right, all booked. Staying at the Alila in Ubud for a few nights, then off for a bit of five-star action at the Melia in Nusa Dua. Then spending a couple of days in Singapore on the way back.
Now gathering ideas of things to do. Was quite up for the monkey temple, but a friend just got attacked there last week by (possibly) rabid monkey bds.
I quite fancy a mountain bike trip and a hike up a volcano.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice and feedback.

Got to recommend my friend's place. Completely surreal. They even have a room built into the cliff face.

Kuta is where you will find the booze-fest. Not too bad to drop in but if you want serenity.. biggrin not the place to be.

Massive thread resurrection, however...

We've just returned from our honeymoon in Bali, and stayed at Mu for 4 nights after reading this thread.

I cannot recommend it enough. The place is so peaceful, and the views are glorious. I admit there isnt much to do, but plenty to fill 4 or 5 days. We surfed on the local beaches, then either ate at Mu (really nice) or at the fish BBQs on Bingin Beach (5 min walk).

I would highly recommmend it if anyone is going to Bali in the near future.
