It is like the audience waiting room for the Jeremy Kyle Show, avoid unless you are one of them!

A tip for 'tipping' get dollar bills, the 'gypos love them. As a dollar is around 60p at present it's a cost saver too.

Another tip, make sure you let your bank know you are going. Last time i didn't and couldn't get any cash without an expensive call to the UK.

Me and the wife are looking for a cheap holiday in April half term (she works in a school so times are limited) and just want to go somewhere cheap, warm and all inclusive.

Seems like Sharm El Sheikh fits the bill nicely, just wondering what its actually like?

Will it give us a bit of sunshine? Don't need any frills, just a decent beach all inclusive booze and somewhere to relax.

Cheers
You don't say if you are taking kids but if you're not (couples only) - Give Sharm a miss and go here...

Just come back from a weeks "fly and flop" here and probably one of the best I've stayed in as far as Egypt goes. Do not leave the hotel - there is nothing to see here.

The hotel has three pools - a "splash" pool - a saltwater pool and the usual (huge) freeform pool. A very good level of service here and the deluxe suites are lovely. It's quite small (250 Rooms) so has a boutique feel about it.

It has a fairly nice beach and a jetty going out over the coral reef for easy/safe shallow snorkling.

I'm actually not a huge fan of Egypt but it is difficult to argue with guaranteed good weather a relatively short flight away. We have been a number of times in the last few years and this really is very good by Egyptian standards. But their standards are very different from other parts of the world...

Feel free to pm if you want any advice on this one.

The Oberoi nearby is pretty good, too. The only hotel in the world we've been to twice.

I have been to the Premier Le Reve in June and I thought it was an amazing place,

first time I have been on holiday with a girlfriend, and I treated us to this place.

trouble is when i came back found out had to take a 20% wage cut and so the next holiday was in September, we ended up on a Sun £9.50 holiday to Pontins Prestatyn with 2 seperate beds,

Definately the best we have found in Egypt so far - would go again and, same as a previous poster, we would normally NEVER go to the same place twice.

That hotel does look amazing, but TBH, for what it costs, I can get a week in Jamaica which is a place I love.

We got it, with upgrades for under £1K a head.

Went to Antigua in April, paid twice the money, was on the plane half as long again and had half the holiday!

NEVER trust the weather in the Carribean.

I can get to Jamaica for about 1k per head, in a proper All Inclusive hotel (the Premier hotel only allows you 1 visit per stay to the italian, chinese or seafood)

I was there for 3 weeks in April 2010, and had one rainy day, apart from that it was proper decent sunshine.

I'm still looking though smile

Sharm - been there, and if you want to snorkel/scuba it's one of the Top-10 places in the world...want to go back for a cheap week just to snorkel.

BUT...if you don't want to do that*, then don't go - the locals are often VERY pushy, half the people who go All-Inc get dodgy guts, and there are far too many Russian tourists there.

Marsa Alam - again fantastic snorkelling/scuba. Isn't a town as such, but a LONG (miles and miles) stretch of All-Inc resorts down the mainland coast. More modern, but:-
- Same AI problems, and no 'town' to go B&B and avoid it.
- Only 1 flight per week out of Gatwick now, with Thompson. Manchester flights stopped earlier this year.

If you just want a cheap week in the sun by the pool this winter consider Canaries or the cheaper bits of the Caribbean.

Same as everone else,

If you dont do the sea dont bother. The reefs are a-maz-ing but
outside the hotel its hassle, a bit grubby, spread out and well, not great.

The diving/scuba is amongst the best in the world, dont worry about the Shark thing, really.

Its cool in december + feb holidays, OK until Nov and after March.
My all inclusive was a bit rubbish, watered down drinks and ordinary food. (And lots of loud crude russians)
2 times at Hyatt Regency were great though. Its a lovely hotel , great site right next to wonderful kart track!,great dive centre on one of the best reef sites. Great but not super cheap.

That'll be our choice if we ever get it sorted...what's Feb like, temperature-wise? We were there 1st week in Dec last year and it was mid-20s easily, albeit a little cool at night. Water temp too...am guessing Feb might be a little cooler than ideal???

Been twice in October which was 31 deg.both times Went at New Year and it was too cold. Not a cloud in the sky mind but chilly wind and freezing pool.
Feb half term maybe a bit marginal, never been then but Dubai is not to far away and thats OK in Feb.
its always sunny, its just the wind.

Even less condescending, my wife and I...

And, for the divers/snorkelers, is Sharm better than Hawaii (the Big Island) currentlty the best place I have been for sea-life?

I stayed in Negril. The hotel was the Sunset At The Palms and was amazing.

I booked with First Choise (as was getting married there at the same time) so flew with Virgin Atlantic and had the full AI Package and it was absolutely superb.

I'm now considering booking The Dominican Republic in July for 2 weeks. Found a beautiful hotel (That my parents have stayed at before so i know it's nice) with All Inclusive for under £1k each. Seems better value than that hotel in Sharm that was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Decided to wait a couple more months and invest a bit more.

Booked 2 weeks in Dominican Republic, Blue Bay Villas in July/august. Much better choice!

Cheers for helping me put the wife off Sharm hehe

Personally, I'm not really a sea person, but even the snorkelling off Sharm was absolutely amazing and being able to take a day trip to Cairo was a great experience. Can't deny the negative points though.

Enjoy the Dominican Republic.
