Discovery 3 Retro Fit 'D4' Sat Nav
Discussion
For those of you like me without a built in Sat Nav then there is an easy retro fit option...
I have had the car for nearly 5 years but have now managed to upgrade it with the screen surround from a D4 GS and a Garmin 1490T.
I havent yet done all the wiring (others have done it, so I know its easy enough) but have fitted the surround and nav today. Very pleased with it....

Have wired it all up now as well......
Works a treat!
Comes on with ignition. Land Rover splash screen. Traffic reports etc...
You can also use bluetooth to read the ECU and present live dials of data re turbos, air mass, faults, reset faults etc if you are that way inclined.
Can also used the 1490 TV version if you want reversing cameras and live TV.
It cost me £145 for the 5 inch Garmin, plus £12 for the D4 surround and £7 for a cigarette lighter extension cord. I spent about 6 hours on the project but now I know what I am doing I think it would be about 2 hours work.

Can you give me a guide on the wiring side want to do this as it looks great.
I cant recall how I did it from memory. Look on the disco 3 forum. Ultimately I took a simple feed from something behind the dash and ran the power cable behind the pull off silvery grey panel. Hello! Have purchased an LR3 and would like to retrofit the sat nav. Travelling between London and Muscat. Found this forum on a google search for the same topic.
Gazzab, I presume the surround was from a dealer.? Would appreciate your guidance to procure all the components and fitting instructions for a local company to install in Muscat.
Shall upload images shortly,
