We're renting a villa in Juan les Pins for a week during the first week of September so was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of things to do (both nightlife and day) in the area (ie. Cannes, St. Tropes, Nice, Monte Carlo etc). We're renting a car so getting around won't be a problem.

Rob a bank by gunpoint, then have a nice coastal road getaway, in a nice, comfy car. A little bit Ronin, so to speak.

Sitting in a bar on the port in St Tropez. Watching jousting on the boats in Cassis. Calanques in Cassis.

A visit to St. Paul de Vence or the market over the border in Ventemiglia on a Friday. Dare I say Antibes market? I used to live across the street from there. A trip up to Biot if there is a band playing in the square for the evening. Le Poste is a nice cafe.
Perfumes in the air around Grasse, take the back roads with the roof/windows down. The Moulin du Mougins is a 4**** restaurant and jolly pricey but on the road there, there is a pizza van with a wood oven, best ever. The seafood restaurant right at the far end of the Croisette in Cannes, not far from the cop-shop, does a mean plat royale of fishy things.
To be honest, on my day off, I just got on the bike and got lost in the hills. Back road bliss.
Some of my family still live down there but get the hell out for August and only return in the middle of September. It's full of bloody tourists, you know.;)

If you go to St Tropez stop at St Maxime and take the boat across from the port. Saves the drive round which can be congested most times if the day and is also a nice trip across the bay. I'm off to St Max on the 10th and can't wait. I second the a route Napolien, I normally do this on the way down there and get a hotel to break the journey. " but this is the only way to the Cote D'Azur hunny" usually suffices and it gets the drive out of the way early on!! Port Grimaud is a good evening out, plenty of restaurants and boatyard trips. Good karting track outside of Grimaud by the heliport and another at Frejus, just along from the funfair. D

Cannes & St Trops will be your best bet for nightlife.
Juan Les Pins is more beach restaurant type scene.
