Regarding the scooter idea, I'll make a judgement call when I'm there and I've seen the riding first-hand. I've ridden bikes (from mopeds through to sportsbikes) for years in all weathers, including some countries that were pretty, er 'dicy', so if it looks unsafe I'll go for a Jeep instead.

I've done 'hot' before (Indian ocean) but this may be a new level of hot. Good job I went for a villa with a private pool just metres from the bedroom then!

no problem, we had the pool villa the first time we were there and it was a godsend when its 37 deg at midday, almost too hot to sit in.

went for the garden villa last year and just used the pools around the complex which were fine...

another place i can recommend is fishermans retreat down the road on the left - they hire cars / scooters (£4 a day) and the food is very good and very cheap.
