Greeting,
I am going to Northern Cyprus on Monday for a week and I was wondering what is essential to see and do whilst there? We are staying in Karpaz which I believe is very rural and quiet, and we are hiring a car whilst out there for getting about.
Thanks,
The Greenskin

I would go have a look at the abandoned city of Varosha - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varosha,_FamagustaA bizarre place, you can't get too close but you're allowed to see it from the Beach. I'd also go for a walk in the centre of Nicosia, where you should be able to cross into "South" Cyprus easily.

You can get into Famagusta from the Turk side. Signs everywhere saying no photos. We managed to take lots. A truly bizarre experience. Sit on the beach and seawards it's all normal, do a 180 and it's crumbling hotels. After 38 years that crane has got to collapse one day!

Kyrenia castle and the harbour, there are some great restaurants on the waterfront. St Hilarion castle in the mountains is definitely worth a walk & climb around, fantastic views and great for watching the Turkish army exercises.
