Yeah - was thinking along the same lines.
Any suggestions as to mobile phones? We will be a large group and, in all likelihood, wanting to split up. It would be useful if we could phone each other if we get separated but I don't fancy paying £1.10pm. Best bet seems to be to get 2 local PAYG handsets?

If you're planning on splitting up a couple of US SIM cards would be essential in my view. I usually go for this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AT-T-2g-3g-USA-US-PAY-AS... and register it on the $2 a day unlimited plan. No charge for the days you don't use it but then $2 is charged when you do. You can then make as many US calls and US/UK texts as you like during that day. Any suggestions as to mobile phones? Double check your phone compatibility but most unlocked quad band phones should be fine.

Hi folks
Just thinking about holidays at the moment (family of 6). Normally we probably spend about £3k to £4k per year going abroad and usually go to Turkey, Egypt, or Asia. However, for a change, the kids would love to go to Florida (and so would I ).
How much will I need to spend for a decent holiday? By "decent" I mean reasonable hotel, maybe 3/4 theme parks, and all food and drinks.
Also I'm looking for minimal stress "all-in-one" package so which would be the best company to book with?
Thanks in advance
We have F1895 on owners direct - always happy to do a deal for PH'ersJust thinking about holidays at the moment (family of 6). Cheers Roger - that looks very nice (and pretty close to what I think we need IMO). At the moment I'm collecting a list of suitable villas with a view to deciding April-time. Reason for the delay is that I think some other family members might want to tag along, in which case we'll need a bigger place.
Thanks again
No problem, yep we are very close to all the places most people want to visit, if you have not booked your flights yet, dont dismiss flying into Tampa, we 'saved' £1200 on our flights for 6 of us in 2011 and picking up the hire car was so much easier than MCO. if you have any questions please just ask.
With regards to mobiles etc, you'll be pleased to know that starting last month there is a roll out of wi-fi going on through the Disney parks. Now it's not going to be amazingly quick, but worth getting free VOIP apps and using that service.
By the time you go it will all be in place.
Whenever we go, we just txt each other rather than call to keep the costs down for when to meet up etc

Buy a copy of this map http://www.orlandomaps.co.uk befoe you go, it's brilliant
It is indeed very good. If you have an iPhone the Navigon satnav is excellent and doesn't use any data. I think it was about £20 to download BEFORE you go!

Thanks for the offer Roger. Tampa seems a lot further away than Orlando or SFB. Not sure I fancy driving 100 miles plus after a 10 hr flight....RicksAlfas said:

I don't think that journey would faze me - to the main villa areas around SR192 it's probably 80 miles - but I'm always amazed at the people who fly into Miami and drive up to Orlando, that's a long drive and it's *very* boring. But then people drive up to Scotland after flying overnight into Manchester, or to South Wales having arrived in Heathrow - both seem mental in the extreme to me.
