Ferrari F40 Values - Past and Present

Does anyone know whether a record of changing F40 values exists, from launch to now?

I would be interested to know how values rocketed in the late 80s, fell and have risen again.

Any guidance much appreciated.

Go to one of the auction house sites with a good built-in search engine eg Bonhams and look for f40 in previous results

Are you looking at joining the fold, or just curious?

Jamie,

I do not think I could justify the outlay currently. However in the medium term it could be viable.

Thanks

Medium term...
When values hit £750k?
or £100k?

"We'll see!"

Beautiful cars, that's for sure.

Why do you ask?

There arent many of us F40 owners on here, so its always interesting when someone else considers joining the fold.

I think Nigel Mansells was one of the most expensive sold at the peak at around £1M

Don't forget the range on these cars is quite wide depending on spec and mileage, and possibly also US or EU car. And I don't know how many change hands outside auction houses but I'd guess quite a lot/the majority.

Besides the historical interest factor, I assume you're not doing this to justify a they'll-come-down-again man maths kind of thought process? smile

I doubt their prices will fall, I even doubt many will be sold after the next 5 years, it seems with modern supercars and hyperars being criticised for being too aloof and unengaging, the f40 is seen as the peak of both driving pleasure and insane speeds in supercars.

But of course I hope they do drop in value so I can get one...

Prices of the F40 will never come down. If you want to turn ~350k into 1m+ in the next 10 years and have a work of art to look at, this is the ticket.

Nice little F40 review here:

It is impossible to tell what the market will do....

F40s still look expensive compared to the rapidly depreciating Enzo-esque 458s:

I'm sorry, did you just seriously compare an F40 to an entry level ferrari?

That's quite a statement. They've already been significantly up and down through the years, have they not?!

Just illustrating how the performance game moves on with technology and time.

The bottom line is that you can't fool the market - hence the strong F40 prices. There is a LHD one available near me currently at £450,000!

They were only made in LHD (although the Sultan of Brunei had 7 custom made in RHD)

At their highest they were around £500k in the 80's.

A low owner very low mileage car could make this today.

Adjusted for inflation that's a very different price, though.
