Tour of what? Its not really a sight seeing sort of place.

Hire a car, buy park tickets, job done smile

Thomson do some good fly drive packages. Basically you can drive around Florida staying 2/3 nights at each city finishing off back at the airport.

its all very much geared up for the tourist there , id agree to just book some flights and a rental car and plan your own trip

when we have done anything "organised" its pretty much been a voucher and go and catch that bus over there so not much help

lots of disney forums to help you too ..very easy

Check the dates for Spring Break, that might push prices up.

Find your own flights, hire a car, get a villa. Sorted!

We're going in February and this time I booked via ebookers.com. Got a good deal with the flights, hotel and car hire we wanted all at the same time. When we went last year I did the flights via Expedia, the hotel via hotels.com and the car direct with Alamo. A bit long winded but at the time it was the cheapest way to get exactly what we wanted.

If this is your first trip to Orlando then I'd definitely recommend that you have a look at The Dibb website as it's full of hints and tips, especially for the best places to get park tickets etc.

Depends what you are after really. I tend to use Virgin Holidays mainly because of Virgin Atlantic. They generally tend to have decent service and you get there in one "hop". Some of the Flights with other airlines tend to require change in Europe and Boston to get to Orlando. Thomson will not have the 787 in service by then and only fly into Sanford which is about an Hour further out than Orlando International. However Flights only come in just over a grand. With a 13 year old I'd agree that a Fly-Drive would be best and if it is the Theme Parks you want to visit then Get a Villa. Bit more privacy on an evening as the Parks tend to shut earlier at that time of year. Most are around the Disney Resort Area and Kissimmee/192 area.

If you are planning on travelling around then Kissimmee/US192 is the "place" for the more reasonable hotels/Motels close to the parks for your initial stopoff. It is also easy to pick up the Interstates and Toll roads for Kennedy and both coasts as well as the "Keys" from Kissimmee. I-Drive is also easy to find but tends to be a bit pricier unless you can get a "deal" from the Local Tourist office on I-Drive. Both are easy to get to. I tend to exit the Airport (Orlando International), Get though the first 528 Toll, $1.25, then get off on to Sand Lake Road which takes you to The Orange Blossom Trail, I-Drive or I-4. The Orange Blossom Trail crosses 192. Bit Busy but a Useful road to know. I-Drive south takes you to Lake Buena Vista and Via the 535 down to the 192. I-4 Pretty Much does the same.

Thanks for the replies and the wife has gone and booked us a week at the hard rock hotel in feb! Now the questions are:

Where s the best place to get attraction tickets?

Do we NEED a car, as the hard rock hotel is at universal but will want to go to wet n wild, sea world and maybe Busch gardens? But will not want to eat at the hotel if possible due to the high costs so would be taxis to international drive etc

Thanks in advance

Busch Gardens is about 1hr away, so that'd be an expensive cab ride.

Which airport are you landing at ?

It might be cheaper to get a car.

Wet And Wild and Sea World are accessible by Hotel Bus Especially from the Universal resort Hotels. DisneyWorld and Busch are a bit away, Busch especially so. I would also be careful following Signs for Busch at the Moment. There are a lot of Roadworks off the I-75 and the exit wasn't well marked when I was there in November. Busch Essentially is I-4 West from Orlando on to the I-75 North and exit at 265, (also Uni of South Florida). It's rather strange as it is in what the Americans call a commercial district, but on the other hand it sticks out like a sore thumb!!!. There's a Nice I-HOP opposite if you fancy Breakfast without paying the park prices. Car wise you should get something along the lines of a Chevrolet Cruze which will hold Three cases. I'd also make time for Shopping. If you go to I-Drive and head North you get to the "Premium" Outlets which is always worth a visit. Then Along Sand Lake is the Florida Mall. Ideal if you like Hollister or Abercombie.

I seem to recall when I stayed at the Hard Rock that it got you fastpass tickets upgrades in the Universal Parks.

Just checked!

Exclusive On-site Hotel Guest Benefits Package:
SKIP THE REGULAR LINES with Universal ExpressSM Unlimited ride access* in both theme parks - a FREE benefit worth up to $89 per person, per day^ (valid theme park admission required)

Early Park Admission† to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, one hour before the park opens (valid theme park admission required) before nearly all other guests. This is your opportunity to avoid significant wait times due to the area’s immense popularity.

These are worth it, unless you enjoy spending most of your day in a queue.

Car is essential, if only to escape International Drive.

Sign up at the various outlet malls websites to get discount vouchers.

Travel light on the way out, buy everything out there. There's a Walmart on Turkey Lake Road a couple of miles from the hotel.

As you're in a hotel, take a travel kettle and some teabags!

Get yourself along to the Fish on Fire bar. http://www.fishonfireorlando.com/
