Morning all!

Looking at skiing options for Easter, two adults, four kids. I am very keen on La Plagne or Les Arcs (high, reasonably close for the drive down) but reading about the funicular from BSM to LA1600 got me thinking - is it possible to stay in BSM and get the funicular up to the snow each day, or is it a monumental pfaff, especially with kids, long walks involved, etc etc.

Anyone done it?

Thanks

Not done it, but I have stood on the platform at Bourg station for a freezing hour when they wouldn't let us on the Eurostar for reasons I never did fathom & watched the LA funicular go up & down. It looks to be five minutes out of town & I would guess it's an easy thing to stay in Bourg & ski everyday.

Although, Bourg itself is not an especially charming place & it is twenty minutes from loads of resorts, so the question might be why would you want to stay there?

Well...cheaper, easier to get to (either by train, or by car, does away with the last half-hour up the hill at the end of a long drive), more bars, restaurants, parking, supermarkets, cheaper, and cheaper.

It's like flying to Paris to eat in McDonalds. You could but you'd be missing the point. smile

Done it before, we were in the apartments just opposite the funicular station. Was great, the ski hire shop is down just next to the funicular stop too.

I'd recommend it, saves a lot of money and not too much of a faff from where we were located. We skiied La Plagne a few times and had time to spare getting it back down.

We have stayed at Seez at the La Clusaz campsite, in a log cabin or (even a Yurt is available!) Melanie who runs the place is lovely smile You can ski from St Foy to Seez if there is enough snow. Its a great place to be based if you have a car & are happy to travel a bit to find the best powder that week etc. Its a winter site & its not unusual to have to dig the car out in the morning. The kids would love it.

Seez is a couple of miles out of Bourg, its great for St Foy (15 mins) Villaroger (Les Arcs) and Tignes le lac.
