Hiring a mustang in California

Finally! Found the pics of Marvin the Mustang!
Down Highway 1 somewhere
BTW, stop to eat here, http://www.lucialodge.com/
And these are from the road that goes by Area 51, well it would if Area 51 existed (Not to everyone's taste but I liked it after messing with photoshop and I think the looks suits the mood when I took the photo)
Just for the record, Area 51 does exist - it was the name the CIA used in some of their documentation for the base of operations developing certain new technologies (Lockheed aeroplanes). Here's a doc showing it. http://www.foia.cia.gov/docs/DOC_0001471747/000147...Down Highway 1 somewhere

These days the base in the middle of it is just called Groom Lake by most people.

Just for funsies, here's a road that goes straight for a while. The next turn is in Nevada, but the photo was taken from miles inside California:
I love this part of the world:

Is that up towards Monterey Bay?Beautiful part of the world. I'd never seen the pacific before. Stunning.
The bridge in the photo is quite famous - it's called the Bixby bridge.

I'm not remotely into floral prose or having anything like a "bucket list" of things to do before I kick the bucket, but I do think that anyone who has never seen one should go watch a Pacific sunset.Due to my abuse of US customer service (i.e. complaining, bribing and negotiating) we got a suite overlooking the pacific . Then watched it on a balcony, with complementary red wine and cheese whilst I smoked my pipe, awaiting the next day with hundreds of miles to go, with all the time in the world to get there. It was bliss.

We had similar, requested a Mustang, got a free "upgrade" to a Sebring convertible. Probably would've struggled with cases in the Mustang but would've been so much cooler. The Sebring was dull and slow.
Wrong.Sebring boot when down is smaller than the Mustang. We fitted both holdalls in the mustang when folded, but on the first trip had the Sebring with luggage on the back seat.
Mustang wins

I've just reserved a Mustang GT with Hertz, the new year sale is giving good discounts and it came out at about $500/week. Getting very excited about our trip now
It's a few years back now, but I hired mine for 6 weeks for just over $1200 (I have documentation for this whihc I've just looked up so it's not a misremembered number)That involved a couple of discounts and a couple of upgrades (at the time I was a frequent hirer, and they gave me a band D car for the price of a B at a discount to the B rate).
Can't see that happening again in a hurry...

Anyone ever had a new Dodge Charger? Think we will end up in Florida this year, really want a Mustang but just don't think it will happen, what with two small kids and two weeks worth of clothes.. Loved the look of the Chargers when we were last out there and I reckon a V8 one would scratch the itch nicely...
I drove a new shape V8 Charger for a day when I was in Miami in October. Really liked it, was a good, practical alternative to the Mustang/Camaros that everyone wants.Beefmeister said:

Any idea which company it was from? I cant find anyone with anything more concrete than it as a possible alternative to a Malibu...I can't remember where I was, I think Tucson, a couple of years back, but my observations for those who are hiring:
- I firmly requested a Mustang convertible before, during and after booking. I've got Gold because I did a lot of hiring at one stage, so thought they'd pay attention. I even asked, requested, that a Sebring was in no way to be considered as an alternative. Like, Mr Hertz Man, make the Sebring magically disappear when I arrive. If you are down to your last Mustang, then if you think you'll be short by the time I get there - think again. That sort of thing.
- You can guess what happened. No Mustang. Even with the notes on my file, the forewarning phone calls...it was beyond their ability to manage their stock.
- "...but we have a Sebring, Sir..."
- The above conversation didn't last long. We walked into the lot; I saw two Camaro's. One Buzz Yellow, the other Graphite. I said I'd take the Graphite. They can suck any cost differential.
The Camaro is a good [read OK] car. V6. 110 is where you hit the limit. But better than a Mustang. Boot is ok.
Moral of the story: even if you request a Mustang, and think you've crossed the 't's' and dotted 'i's', then be mindful that it may not happen.
About the Corvette. I hired a ZHZ from McCarran. A convertible. The boot is not great (no space for moonshine) as you'd expect. But if it's a choice between dawdling around in some 4x4 with luggage or slinging your luggage in the bin and having the roof down thundering through Death Valley, then it's not much of a choice.
In addition, I did a trip with a mate of mine, and we had Camaro and Corvette out at the same time. That was fun.

The Apache Trail is brilliant, i'm going back this year with the lads!
I wonder if i'll be able to rent a Mustang/similar considering i'm only 23 years old?
Check, they seemed OK with most things, but this was at PHX rental desk. To be honest, the Apache Trail was a last minute thing that was thrown together, I'd flown down from San Jose for a couple of meetings, the afternoon one cancelled and my flight back wasnt til 7.30, so thought I'd piss around a bit. I Google'd driving in Tempe area, thinking there must be something and found that. I wonder if i'll be able to rent a Mustang/similar considering i'm only 23 years old?
It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life actually. Being so remote with that amount of heat. My survival plan up until that point was as far reaching as a credit card, a phone and half a bottle of water. Had anything happened I think I'd have lasted about a couple of hours. When I realised how vulnerable I was I hotfooted it down as quick as I could

It's actually got quite a big boot on it.
Enjoy!
will have 2 big duffle bags , 2 sports bags and 2 carry , looks a bit close to me lolEnjoy!
might try a esclalade or something anyway heheh
I had a convertible, so of course was heavily compromised, but judging my Swerni's profile [coupe, no?], then interested to know if it's got the space.
