It's true - application posted on Tuesday, new passport received on Friday. Still reeling from the shock.

Great service from an often maligned government department.

Mailed mine on Saturday, left before the postman arrived this morning so it's possible it's got to me. I'm not holding my breath though as I went over the box by about 1mm with my signature.

Fully expecting it to be rejected but crossing my fingers nonetheless.

Pretty sure my last one came in less than a week.

The postie delivered a couple of parcels ten minutes later so not him (I didn't answer the door). I wonder when O/H's passport, applied for at the same time, will arrive.

Mine was delivered today (yes, Sunday) so they clearly don't use royal mail for this service.

I find the passport service exceptionally efficient (and polite on the phone) - everything my other interactions with the public sector are not. They appear to have realised their purpose is to provide passports to the public, not employment for lefties.

I posted ours last Wednesday, payment came out on Friday and no delivery yet. I was expecting 3 weeks so anything before that time is a bonus.

Done two recentely and both back within a week and one of those was 'chanced' as it was a child passport into a first adult one and was waiting for the 'sorry, the photo is not recognizable and must be countersigned' but wasn't a problem so top marks from me.

Deffo think that it's much more efficient and accommodating if you apply during the quiet times of the year.

The second passport applied for at the same time (see orignal post) arrived yesterday, having been processed by a different office. It was just pushed through the letterbox, not signed for like the first one. The old passport arrived a few minutes later by post - why do they send them back, it must add to the cost?

Despite all that, it's a very efficient service - well done Passport Office.

For your second one did they give you the flimsy photo page version with the birds everywhere? smile

They send the old ones back as visas are sometimes valid in expired/cancelled passports (when presented with a new/valid passport obviously), plus its useful as a record of previous travels

Not just me then. Last November, I took my renewal application into the PO on Tue, and received my new passport on Fri. Pretty impressive service.

Lucky you lot!

We have to get our passports via the embassy in Paris by post only.

It takes WEEKS, sometimes months, costs a fortune (about €120 for a 5 year child's passport) and they charge extra for courier postage back to your home. BUT, the Paris muppets send the passport to the embassy in Lux so you have to go and collect it.... but they won't refund the €30 they charged for courier postage they didn't use. The scamming s.

You don't know how lucky you are.

I live in Thailand so I had to post mine to Hong Kong (despite living 30 mins from the British embassy here!) who then apparently send everything back to the UK to be processed and a new passport issued. And because I only had a 30 day tourist visa and needed the new passport to get my work visa, that meant I had to go to Cambodia to get another 15 days tourist visa on my old passport. Twice.
