Some reckon flying other than economy is a pointless extravagance, some refuse to fly economy if they can possibly avoid it.

I fly economy because it fits my budget (or rather, my budget fits economy.) I did take premium economy to NYC last year and on my next transatlantic flight will definitely do the same. The extra legroom and iPad / laptop charger was nice, as was the free drink. I love drinking on planes.

I try to avoid flying. Hateful experience (airports, security, hurry-up-and-wait, faff at the other end) that removes any sense of adventure from travelling.

Flying is just the same as getting on a bus. No matter how much you spend, the result is the same. An Airport full of a lot of unpleasent people going in the opposite direction to you and staffed by the dreggs of the coutries' workforce.

I nod-off on flights and wake up at the other end, so it doesn't really matter what ticket has been bought for me.

Cattle class is fine by me.

I don't care if I 'save' £20. I'm not flying Ryanair.

Considered premium economy when flying to the Maldives a couple of months back, but just couldn't justify the opportunity cost for the sake of a few hours of barely mild discomfort. Travelled first class to the airport, though, booking the train well in advance there was sod all in it.

We're very lucky in that my father had over 2,000,000 Airmiles (or Avios as it's now known), so we always fly business. As nice as it is, I don't think I'd ever pay however many extra thousand pounds for the sake of a few hours of comfort.

For work I fly business if the trip is over eight hours....

At home furiously save avios, and with my BA Amex and companion vouchers we can fly business / First on holiday for not much... e.g. Zurich return from NCL via LHR in Club Europe £80 for two and Las Vegas via LHR return from NCL First £1000 for two.

Fly economy to Australia at least once a year, could go business but I've got better things to spend the 5k extra it would cost for the 2 of us. The end result is the same, we always get a transit hotel for the stopover to get away from the crowds.

Depends on time ,length and direction if I am on a 5hr ot plu flight I fly busimess though if I take.a day flight to Europe I fly economy sometimes. I have a lot of airmiles so my wife goes to Japan on business or first periodically. Am close to a million lifetime miles on Air Canada which gives me lifetime star alliance gold status so I will at least have permeanent lounge and early boarding in all classes. Handy after retirement.

Economy. I'm poor.

Hit a bit of tramadol and temazepam and you wouldn't know the difference.

Plus I'd rather spend the extra cash on the holiday/coke/hookers etc smile

I normally fly economy but have been lucky enough to go business a few times and can,t see why, if you have the money, why you would ever fly any other way. Cramped, stuffy, occasionally smelly, depending on who you sit next to or are near the toilet, economy is the worst way to go, even on short flights.

I have flown VS Upper many times yet I also enjoy flying Ryanair, the cheaper the better with them!

Some of my more frugal trips (all including taxes and fees) include 2p return to Barcelona, £2 return to Venice Treviso and Aarhus for £8 return. Work the system and understand their rules then Ryanair is perfect for short haul.

I fly economy/whatever is cheapest, however I always check the business fare to see if they represent any value.

Once I paid an extra £300 for Etihad business to south asia. Bargain as they also dropped/picked you up from home, which is probbably worth at least £70.

Surely it's all about how much you fly and what you're supposed to do when you land? Both from a health and comfort point of view.

e.g. IMO If you fly long haul more than say 2 times a year it has to be business class.

I fly a fair amount. always in cattle...

I can't justify paying 2/3 grand a time to sit in business when cattle is only £400. The extra comfort isn't worth the money

Have a few G&Ts, pop some codine or Valium and go to sleep.

I've often flown business class for work, but there's no way I'd pay for it myself. I can't justify the cost for a few hours discomfort. I recently flew economy from Austrlia on an A380, it was very good, for economy.

SWMBO demanded we upgrade from BA World Traveller Plus to Club World coming back from Bangkok at Christmas. It was £1,200 for the two of us. I moaned and screamed But you know what? For a 13-hour overnight flight it was worth it. We were in the "bubble" upstairs. It was like being in a private jet. The 'beds' were sublime. Being able to stretch out and move in your own private space was fantastic. We arrived at LHR feeling as fresh as when we got on the plane in BKK. I'd do it again - but only for a 10-hour+ night flight. Unless you use the "beds" you're not getting the best out of it.

On long haul always go for a seat in the centre row of the aircraft, 8 times out of 10 have all 3/4 seats to myself, far more comfy than one buiness class seat.
