Never been in the posh seats but a recent jaunt across the pond in cattle class was a knee killer. Next time I am going to find out what is the other side of the curtain for the extra 8 (??) inches. The connecting flights for a few hours were OK but not the four hour one.
Long haul it's not an extra 8 inches, its a lie flat bed.PatrickOUFC said:
WhereamI comes across as a bit of a snob on this thread...
Look at me with all my money...
Comes across as someone trying to put the price difference into perspective to me. Do you buy home brand baked beans or Heinz? If you drive for a living are you loyal to one chain of petrol stations and then use the loyalty points to contribute to your xmas shop? His job obviously involves a lot of travelling and therefore he accrues a lot of air miles, are you telling me that you wouldn't use these to upgrade your own seats when going on holiday?Look at me with all my money...

I fly economy if I'm paying, as it usually means I've my wife and 2 children with me.
Flew Lufthansa to/from Vancouver recently on their new Airbus, not the A380, and I had plenty of legroom in economy.
If I'm travelling for work, >5h = business class. I choose Swiss for most of those flights. Mmmmm, flat bed.

Gotta wonder at all the buisiness types in the beds, snoring bad in there? On the last overnight flight back in the back it was amusing when all the, er, bottom burps happened inbetween the zzzzz's. I don't sleep well on planes so stayed awake.
Can't say I noticed. I was too busy sleeping in biz class. My flight back from YVR 10 days ago in econonmy I had more issues with noisy bd children behind and a chap snoring across the aisle.
Ive done 50 flights a yr for the last 2 yrs, mostly around Europe, some to the States.
Most of my European flights are with Swiss or Austria and so I bang my Mile n More credit card pretty hard. I tend to get about 2 returns between Switzerland and UK per yr out of the miles I build up. Its usually economy because business as Garg has said isnt really worth it. Besides my preferred seat in usually row 4 is reserved for me anyway or whatever the first row after business stops at. FF card ensures lounge access out of Swiss and priority through security which are the important things. If Im late booking the cost goes up quite a bit to fly home, then worth looking at the business prices are they often arent that more expensive than the economy.
Long haul Ive a Virgin credit card I hammer for their points, plenty in the bag now. Did Prem Econ to St Lucia last yr and out to Boston later this yr will be using the card perks to ensure Prem Econ again. No way doing long haul on econ with a wife whinging in my ear.

I usually fly a few times a year, and last year did my first two long haul trips - one being a non stop 14½ hour flight. I have chronic back issues and a 36" inside leg and hate being couped up in a cramped seat. However, going beyond economy is often just ridiculously expensive. Typically a £600 ticket (for example, to Singapore) can run into the thousands. I just don't see the point of it when I'm spending £2k-£2.5k tops on a holiday. Often I've noticed that my entire holiday budget is less than the difference between economy and business class Plus if you fly on a modern aircraft such as an A380, the leg room is actually quite reasonable and the noise levels, even behind the engines, quite acceptable, especially with noise cancelling headphones (which at £300 are miles cheaper than upgrading to a business class seat!).
I think Business and First look awesome and I'd jump at the chance if I could afford it, but I think they exist for very wealthy people or businesses sending execs around the place. The prices just aren't worth contemplating for ordinary folk.

Just about to book up for xmas in Oz at the end of this year. £800 each for Economy (which is a bargain over xmas) or £4350 each for Business. I think we'll spend some of the savings on nice hotels. I've bought a car over there with the savings from flying economy over the last few years
£4350 is expensive for Australia, I rarely have to pay more than £3,000 and flying with an airline like Etihad or Emirates cuts the cost of transport and parking to the airport as well. But it is still likely to be something like £1,750 to £2,000 more than cattle class. Whether it is worth it depends on what that sort of money is worth to you.rogerthefish said:

I stand corrected, been on a few SA 380,s and never seen this..only a spiral staircase!
I don't know how many they have like that, I've not been on one. But I was booked business on a 380 and given row 90something, which concerned me enough to have a look and discover that the 90s are business at the back of the top deck and the 70s are economy at the back of the top deck. Some planes have one configuration and some have the other.WhereamI said:
