Champery, Switzerland...
Small village, a couple of restaurants and bars. One or two hotels, not really much going nightlife wise.
Joins onto the Portes Du Soleil 650km of runs accessible.
OK so it's not really small, but there is some cracking skiing available if you know your way around and the village is small enough to not be one of "those" resorts.

skiing was ok but views etc. were all a bit crappy (too far down in a valley).
it was paid for by work (ace) but we were in dormitories with about 8-9 people in (bunkbeds). not ace.
so it's probably just the accommodation I didn't like much.
I relaly like Wengen but that may not be small enough for you. Lovely place with a great situation.
Pal of mine went to Bansko many years ago when it was much closer to the communist days than now. Anyway, he said the food was essentially variations on watery pork, onion & potatoes every night & there were no restaurants to leg it to.
So, he went to see the chef, gave him fifty quid which was about a weeks money - still is for seasonaires - and told him to bring him egg & chips every night. The guy was so delighted at the windfall, he happily agreed. Entente cordiale!
