I'd love to hire a Caterham, but my bride to be refused to get in the Roadsport A I used to own. Sadly I can't see her reversing that decision on her honeymoon!

I did think maybe a day or two in a classic or something more upmarket and then drop down to a cheaper eurobox for the remainder of the trip.
Hi Chris,

We have just opened a branch up in Dundee, if you want to PM me I could arrange something from the fleet (R8 Spyder, XKR-S etc.).

Also, the Glenapp Castle is lovely - http://www.glenappcastle.com/

Have a look at Inverlochy Castle just outside of Fort William - it's absolutely stunning there.

Expensive hotel (for me) but my word it looks stunning; I would travel there just to see it.

My Torridon site: www.Torridon.org ... just in case wink
Do you reckon early August is a good time to visit?

We're looking at either heading off immediately after the wedding, which is the last weekend in July, or leaving a gap and going somewhere in September or even October. The latter option was intended more if we went somewhere hot abroad.

Still haven't really decided where we're going, but Scotland is looking like a distinct possibility. Should really hurry up, to be honest!

I think September is a lovely time for the West Highlands. Much much quieter on the roads and the worst of the midges have gone. Often better weather than you'd get in July/August (although never a guarantee!

Www.torridon.com - it might look a bit grand but it's quite homely and friendly, with no posh dress code. From London I'd fly to Inverness (85 mins) and hire (85 mins drive toTorridon). It just won 13th best hotel in the world in the Sunday Times.
+1 This place is out of this world. The food is of michelin star quality. And you are so close to the Bealach.....

So early August might not be the best time to visit the Highlands?

Spring is the time to visit the Highlands... but if you are coming in summer, Sept is better than Aug. August is generally wet and the place has more tourists, and sometimes (though not always) midges.

Cameron House at Loch Lomond is worth a look. Very very pleasant.
Very near Glasgow as well if your there for a few days. But not as beautiful as around torridon. If you go to torridon take the bealach na ba (definitely not spelled correctly) to applecross. Done this two years ago and it was sensational. Seen a stag on top of a hill as we came along the top. It's like driving through a postcard! I done a whale tour around there as well, on the request of my gf at the time which was enjoyable as well

I done it almost solely on getcarter's recommendation.

Been there several times - great food, good leisure facilities, set on its own island but not far from Oban - it's a bit like staying in a country house. It's about 2 hours drive from Glasgow Airport.

I haven't made it up there yet but a last year a mate of mine re-opened a hotel on the West of Kintyre, he's a really nice guy and it sounds pretty good to me so might be worth a look. www.putechan.co.uk

I stopped there years ago on a run out with some classic cars and it was all locked up. Good to see it back in business.

Had a lads mini Road trip from Aberdeen up through Aviemore and stayed at Kylescu on Saturday.

Hotel was Kylescu Hotel and was lovely. Not soo much a hotel, more like a couples retreat. Stunning area, great service and I'm planning on taking the gf back there when she comes up here in a few months time.
