Not sure how well that averages out. If you look at total flights stats, United are more prompt than US Airways. I use them both a lot for domestic travel in US and both are shamed by my local budget carrier AirTran.
If I was pedantic I'd also scold you, as USAir no longer exists.

Lastly, what are US Airways like for long haul? I've heard that it's not all that great, uncomfortable and not much in the way of service.
We fly US all the time, preferred route across the Atlantic is LGW to Charlotte. A330s seem to have the new touchscreens in now so that's nice and USB power on all the seats (removed the fecking original type - which i have cables for!!!)

Flying is a chore at the best of times if I'm honest and US don't seem to be any better or worse than anyone else. Wish they'd retire the old fossils that pretend to be the trolly dollies. It'd be nice if their stewards were less than 65yo.

However, the reason we've stayed with them really is Charlotte airport. If you are gonna get stranded somewhere, or have a few hours to kill, there are much worse places than Charlotte airport (and Charlotte itself). If you're not eating, set up camp on the main concourse, grab a few rocking chairs, power up the laptops (loads of power in the main atrium), and the internet if free. And then stare daggers at the muppets who think they can play the piano. There are other smaller atriums (with rocking chairs) dotted about the complex as well.
