Flying Transatlantic with Monarch...
Discussion
I flew with them to India in 2004 and 2005. Nothing great, not a huge amount of space but even back then they had entertainment, something most airlines seem to have given up on.
I suppose all I can say is the planes seemed OK, if well used and got there without any issues at all. I suppose it depends on the fare. At least their planes aren't grounded with an electrical gremlin...

The standard seat pitch on trans Atlantic long-haul flights
Air New Zealand 31-35 inches
Emirates 31-34 inches
Thomson -33 inches
First Choice - 33 inches
Thomas Cook - 33 inches
Lufthansa 31-32 inches
Aer Lingus - 32 inches
United 31-32 inches
Monarch - 31 inches
BA - 31 inches
Virgin Atlantic - 31 inches
Monarch near the bottom the same as BA and Virgin. I expect the seats are narrower though.

I went to Egypt with them (I think). Pretty cramped and budget airline quality (buy food, buy drinks, etc).
I stocked up in Boots and took my netbook to watch films, it was bearable.
Would never be my first choice (and certainly not Transatlantic), but I've had worse.
Emirates this summer

Where and when are going? I know on the Florida route they've changed the days they fly and dropped some regional airport routes for this year.
Years ago we went with one of the tour operator airlines (I've no idea which one) to Florida and it was fine and on the return they were selling 'upgrades' to the premium cabin for $99, which I thought was well worth it, but few other people took them up.

these were the clowns who took me back from Florida a couple of years back... paid extra for an extra leg room seat, was actually given a seat by the door which meant NO leg room at all!! Upon mentioning this to the steward he 'sympathised' and suggested I could write a letter upon my return! In fairness he did then offer to see if there were any spaces in first class should I be interested (both me and the 2 guys sitting in that row were rather insistant that he did so). Luckily there was so I sighed and relaxed into my fat-boy seat only to hear (as we were taxiing down the runway):
"daddy, I need to go toilet"
"hold it in"
"but daddy, I caaaarn't!"

I flew Monarch to Grenada a few years ago. It was during the last set of snow disruption but they got us there and back no problems.
I had two weeks in a nice hotel plus Monarch flights cheaper than just Virgin flights alone. I've flown Virgin to the Caribbean a few times since and the service has really gone down hill. Last Virgin flight was really bad.
I'd only fly Virgin now if it was significantly the cheapest option.

Slight hijack, but I'm looking at a transatlantic flight with Iberia LHR/JFK but operated by American. Oddly enough, it's cheaper than the American website!
We did this a couple of weeks ago and they were fine - other than 2-5-2 layout. They are in the process of putting some brand new plans on the route with a different layout I think (hope).Flew Monarch last September from LGW to Sanford and return. Trouble was it didn`t return. We booked business/first flight out ok. Return flight was cancelled they put us on another plane from a company that fills in!!!! Spoke little english, no first/busness, 9+ hour flight with NO entertainment, food was absolute crap. Complained in writing and got no where. I fly trans atlantic 4 times a year and will never fly Monarch again. Absolutely appalling customer service. VA has gone downhill now use BA all the time. Am in Arizona at present and we got upgraded to Club World on the way out...superb.
