Spending some time in Italy where internet use is going to be expensive at hotels. Is there anywhere in UK I can buy a 'Italian' USB internet dongle with credit on to use while Im there?

Surely most hotels offer free Wi-Fi these days? If not, many restaurants do - just sit outside...

In Milan as I go there lots

Free wifi is not wide
All internet usage has to be logged hence why it's not free or you need a place who will log you in

As for a dongle thing to get an italian on you need to register it, my uk one works but is expensive

Wife and I holiday in Italy every year. In recent years we've been to Lake Como and the Amalfi coast areas. In both cases the hotel had free WiFi. This coming September we're in the Pisa/Florence area and again the hotel has free WiFi.

A few weeks ago I bought an iPad SIM from the 3 (tre) shop at Milan Linate. It cost €8 and was loaded with 3gb of data that expired after 3 months.

If you have a 3G iPad you can just pop this in. Otherwise they may have a 3G dongle available on non-contract. Perhaps one of the the cheap UK 3 dongles you can get would work with this type of SIM?

Edited to add... there isn't much free wifi in Italy and it does cost a lot in hotels; the last one I stayed at in Milan wanted to charge me something like €20/day which is crazy (and as I had the 3 sim in my iPad it was unnecessary).
