I'm planning to go on a road trip to the south of france with some friends from uni this summer. I initially looked at renting large apartments in towns like Perpignan and Marseille but they were rather expensive and I don't particularly fancy leaving my car on a busy street for 2 weeks. We'd also like a really relaxing break, so instead, we thought we could save money by renting a villa a bit out of the way, but hopefully still around half an hours drive to the beach, and hopefully a similar distance to a town with a few bars so we can go out in the evenings.

I'm reasonably familiar with the Languedoc region, and was considering somewhere south-west of Narbonne, but was wondering if anyone had other recommendations of places to stay (or avoid!)

The trip will be done in a diesel saloon of some sort, probably an alfa 159, so distance/fuel costs isn't really an issue, especially as it will be split between 4 of us.

Thanks smile

That and the area just north of Bordeaux are our current favorites - thanks for your input!
