I've booked a cheap flight from here but I've never flown from Blackpool.

What's it like as an airport? I'm hoping for a hassle free departure and arrival ?

They did introduce the £10 development fee per person but at the same time removed parking fees.
iirc 14 days parking is free

It's fine, very small. Consequently you don't need to check in ages in advance and you can park more or less at the door. It has a shop and a bar, what more do you need from an airport anyway? Have flown from there, nothing to be freaked out about and post weird links to tripadvisor... it's not like you will be there for any more than an hour anyway. Or are we now going to be posting reviews on train and bus stations too?!

The OP queried what the airport was like. I linked to Tripadvisor to demonstrate the issues people have with the airport departure fee. It's a con. I know plenty of people (including my family) have been stung with this fee when trying to depart the airport. With Manchester airport being less than an hour away and Liverpool airport being about an hour away (neither of which charge a ridiculous departure tax), they're not being very astute with their business development by driving away tourists and airlines such as Ryanair who keep many airports alive with their business.

Anyway, it's the OP's choice. He may or may not have been aware of this compulsory pisstake fee-he will be now.

the £10 fee is worth raising, but that's about it. It isn't interesting to see people complaining about it because they failed to find out first. You just add the tenner to the cost of the ticket in your head when working out whether to fly from there. OP also asked if it was hassle-free so it isn't just about the cost. Personally I think it's very hassle-free compared to larger airports.

Great little airport, free parking and the best bit is not having to walk for miles to departure/arrival gate.
Used it many times and would use it more if they had more varied destinations.

Hotel next door if you want to stay night before.

Well I think they are adding the ability to fly more routes etc, hence the development charge

If you live relatively close to Blackpool then the £10 charge shouldn't be a problem - as has been said you are parked 2 mins walk from the terminal building and because it isn't that busy you're not fighting through queues all the time. I've flown from there a couple of times and it's pretty easy going as far as airports go. I'd factor in that car parking so close to the terminal can cost several times more than £10 at both Manchester and Liverpool airports, not to mention potential additional fuel costs to get there (depending on where you live).

Cheers guys.

I was aware of the £10 fee and I didn't bother me tbh. I picked up a cheap flight to Alicante for the piss up in Benidorm come November, the cost was £70 with my points. I couldn't turn it down and jumped at it for the price.

I live 10 mins from Manchester airport but the the price was just short of £250 and it takes 50 mins to Blackpool. I'm happy.

Last time I saw Blackpool airport it had the Vulcan parked at the entrance so I'm guessing it was a good few years back??

I think it was back in the 90's that I was that end of Blackpool and looking at the Vulcan, it then reappeared in my local newspaper about the pub landlord wanting it for his beer garden and it fell through due to its poor health and costs. How cool would that of been in the summer having a pint admiring it frown
